A few weeks ago, @conspirator0 did a thread on verified Twitter accounts that appeared to have changed hands. This included @Tommypage, which was verified to the late singer Tommy Page.
@Marcus_D_animal appears to have met the same fate.
According to the website of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee - @TTOlympic - that account (same @ on Instagram), belongs to Olympic sprinter Marcus Duncan.
On the Twitter account @Marcus_D_animal, the linktree link in the bio goes to a completely different Instagram account. That IG account confirms the Twitter handle as being @Marcus_D_animal.
So, why would Marcusy be operating Marcus Duncan's account?
In a now-deleted tweet from 2 February, @Marcus_D_animal seeks help finding mutuals from his suspended account @marcusy_
It is highly unlikely that Marcus Duncan willingly gave up his verified Twitter account in an Olympic year. Verification can't be "transferred" either, according to platform rules. It's far more probable that he's busy preparing for Tokyo and is unaware he's been hacked.
In this thread, @conspirator0 shows what the @Tommypage account had transformed into.
Of particular interest is that "Xen" - the screen name on @Tommypage - appears to be the same Xen replying here from @xxnwrld.
The curious thing about @xxnwrld is that this account is now also a mutual - they follow each other - of @Marcus_D_animal.
A @josephfcox report earlier this month showed Instagram starting to take the hacking and stealing of accounts very seriously. It has gone much further than Twitter has yet done.
