Thought for the day: I want this election period to be extended for as long as possible. There's development work happening everywhere finally by the state govt. + Centre is finally recognising this state after ignoring it for so long. #BengalElections2021
Suddenly big media houses are opening their third Bengali channels after having only English and Hindi for the longest time. There's conclaves everywhere, employment opportunities for journalists.
Politics is a big industry: IPAC, BJP, CPIM has employed a host of people from Calcutta colleges: marketing, data analysis, campaign, law, accounts etc etc. Further banner printing, chair & sound systems hiring etc etc brings massive opportunities to local businesses.
Lastly: in a state with no checks and balances since left front wherein opposition has always struggled. This election looks different with a good fight from all sides ensuring a system of checks and balances for the first time.

Why is the Citizenship Amendment Act not being enforced yet? The government seemed determined to enforce it last year ignoring countrywide protests. What do Bengal and Assam elections have to do with this? A thread. (1/n)
West Bengal and Assam both go to elections this year. Diverse communities (political actors) in both these states have polarised, opposite views on CAA. Let's talk about these actors and why BJP is in a fix regarding implementation of CAA. (2/n)
Pro-CAA: The biggest proponents of CAA in both Assam and Bengal happen to be Hindu Bengali Refugees & Dalit Refugee Communities. The Matuas a Vaishanavite sect of Dalit Namoshudra community is one of the prime actors (3/n).
