I want to ask those that keep calling for the release Rusesabagina and those who support him some precise questions, where you answer WITHOUT deflecting onto either the manner of his arrest or to something else you argue Paul Kagame might have done...
1. What is your justification or explanation, without deflecting to another issue - your direct explanation for the videos that we know you have all seen of Paul Rusesabagina calling for armed insurrection / attacking Rwanda with force?
2. Do you not believe there is a link between the calls to action, again on camera, and the deaths of citizens in armed attacks carried out by FLN? And why do not believe such a link exists when somebody well known with a public platform makes such calls? Again, no deflection!
3. Even if you personally do not believe Rusesabagina is guilty, why is it that you don't believe that there is at the very least a reasonable suspicion based upon the available evidence, again some of which YOU HAVE SEEN, to justify a trial that examines that evidence?
4. Many keep saying the trial is 'politically motivated' against Rusesabagina, which ignores that there are several others on trial in the same case; this is not a case against Rusesabagina alone. Explain how you believe political motivation can be separated out for one accused?
5. An area often ignored is the independence of the judiciary in Rwanda. Please explain specifically why you don't believe this is a fair trial? Point specifically to evidence that justifies this often repeated trope. Again - evidence, not just rhetoric and opinion.
6. Linked to 5 above, do you realise that through assertions of lack of judicial objectivity that you are directly insulting the incredibly experienced judges in the trial? Please explain specifically with evidence why you believe each judge will not uphold legal principles?
7. Presumably all of you have followed the trial directly as it has been open to view. Explain specifically which parts of the trial you believe have been unfair or not in line with legal principles?
Final: Again, do not deflect into other areas, other topics, or other people. Answer these questions directly and only within the scope of what the questions are actually asking. It will be interesting to read the responses.
