Using whole-genome sequencing approach on > 6000 Ss and replication in > 7000 we identified about 300 independent genetic signals. Some of these signals were predominantly found in the Qatari population.
We replicated many previously known loci for these traits demonstrating shared genetic components across populations.
Trait heritability is more similar between Qatari and European populations (r = 0.81) than with Africans (r = 0.44)
We showed that European derived PGS has reduced predictive performance when applied to the Middle Eastern population of Qatar
The results from this project are shared publicly @GWASCatalog hoping that the specificities of the Arab genomes will be taken into consideration in genetic research and clinical implementation.
This study represents the first outcome of the @QatarGenome Research Consortium, and further studies are expected to be published in the coming few months.
