This September it will be 30 years since Rik Mayall and @AdrianEdmondson brought BBC sitcom Bottom to our screens. (1/7)
On the 4th June, 1991, Rik and Ade went to Hammersmith with director Ed Bye to film the opening titles for the show. (2/7)
A few months ago I found that the original 35mm film exists in the BBC archives - about 20 minutes of footage in all, a good chunk of which features the boys improvising on the famous bench. (3/7)
I’ve reedited the Bottom title sequence using a new transfer of the film and recreated the captions. It hasn’t been cleaned up but it is in HD. I’ve also graded it a little. You can see the results here: vimeo.com/515651356 (4/7) @AdrianEdmondson
This film transfer was done with a Cintel Blackmagic Scanner 2. There’s evidently more picture information available. This latest scan has favoured one part of the frame. I haven’t made any framing choices. (5/7)
As was common by then, “clean” versions of the opening and closing credits were kept on the end of some of the master tapes. Although in SD, I’ve been able to brighten up the closing sequence and recreate the credits. (6/7)
Huge thanks to @claytonhickman for tracking down the fonts for me. He’s posted about them here. (7/7)
