NEW: At about the same time Sen. Ron Johnson floated a conspiracy theory on the Capitol attack, the feds unsealed a case against a Trump fan who brawled with police and then tried to shoot down Antifa rumors on a pro-Trump forum.

Vanita Gupta would arguably be the most progressive top DOJ official in history. You’d have to go back to Thurgood Marshall to find a civil rights leader that high up the DOJ org chart.

Even by political attack ad standards, the Judicial Crisis Network attack ad is pretty shameless.

It claims, over a photo Dylann Roof, that Gupta wants to “reduce” sentences for white supremacists.

Gupta oversaw Roof’s prosecution.

I’m endlessly curious about the steakhouse plan. Setting aside the fact that settling for a DC steakhouse is a pretty basic move for a vineyard owner, the idea of like Yelping restaurant reviews while taking part in an effort to overturn a free and fair election is just bonkers.

Got overtaken by the Brent Bozell IV news, but yesterday the feds also unsealed charges against Dean Egtvedt, an “incoherent” Trump fan who yelled “SHOOT ME” at officers and told members to “grow a spine or fucking resign” on Baked Alaska’s livestream during the insurrection.

Pretty poor OPSEC here.
Internet sleuths did a ton of work here, but the earliest mentioned tip to the FBI on Jan. 14 came from W-1, who “was affiliated with the same school that Bozell’s children attended.” The school-banded apparel started some discussion. W-2 is more of a pure internet sleuth.
