The Central Govt in India has always put weight on religion in decisions. Who would step on rights of a same sex couple to be married if they choose? I often see these views coming from Islam/Christianity as both historically stood against same sex marriage & the LGBTQ community.

I also recognize these religions imported to India primarily through invasion, have over the centuries had adverse effects on Indiaโs native Dharmic culture as it tried to adapt, but Sanatan Dharma is eternal, pluralistic & inclusive, not dogmatic & fixed.
Islam & Christianity are highly political & engaged heavily in Indiaโs politics & Hindutva is properly answering their involvement in Indiaโs politics. But I would like to think this view on same sex marriage is not a modern Hindu view being pushed from the center.
I personally never believed it was in the right of government to define a relationship between two adults or to deny the right to marry based on biological sex. We have enough issues, why step on love between two people by defining how that love is legally allowed to exist?
Perhaps this issue will work itself out when UCC is brought forth for India & religion is removed as a pretext for individual personal law, including marriage. Itโs a worthy debate, one that wasnโt settled in the US until 2015.
