"It’s hard to be able to have these feelings of grief and exhaustion and joy, at times, and then turn around and having to crank out a 1,000 word column about a thing you’ve never completely reflected on," - @Erika_D_Smith on being a columnist in this time twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

“You call it a reckoning? This is not a reckoning. It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Unless we’re able to have the conversations about getting other people up to speed… and talking about, very seriously. the impact that policy has on society.” - @tyrone_beason

When Christine Yano got to her vaccination site, she came armed with proof of eligibility.

But workers at the site denied her the shot. The letters, they said, could be fake.

“They basically said, ‘Try somewhere else, we’re not taking you,’” she said.
latimes.com/california/sto…
Though only 33 years old, Yano qualified because she is the mother of 15-month-old triplets with chronic lung disease.

She showed staffers a letter from the Department of Developmental Services, and another from one of the agency’s regional centers.

In her arms, she held a stack of medical records that offered more proof, including a prescription for her children’s oxygen.

Engine failures on commercial planes happen more than you may think.

But here's some good news: Modern jets are designed to fly safely for a while even after one engine quits.

@hugomartin explains: latimes.com/business/story…
A Boeing 777 jet operated by United experienced a right-engine failure after takeoff last weekend.

This and other examples of midflight engine failures show the ability of commercial airliners to fly for an extended period even after an engine quits. latimes.com/business/story…
Some larger commercial jets fly with four engines, and they can continue with only three if needed.

But even on two-engine commercial planes, each individual engine has enough thrust to continue flying the whole plane for long distances. latimes.com/business/story…
