I loved this down-to-earth, maternity-friendly fashion moment from Meghan, but let’s talk (AGAIN 🤬) about fashion IDs for a minute. 1/7
I woke up yesterday morning to a flurry of fashion chat about Meghan’s blue dress. @MeghansFashion suggested a dress from Velvet Torch. @WhatMegWore suggested a maternity style from Pink Blush. Later, I suggested a Michael Kors style. 2/7
All were close-ish? But we all knew that it was impossible to know for sure. Every blogger and fashion expert I talked to yesterday agreed. We can’t make a real, accurate ID from the video clip. We can only guess or provide lookalikes. 3/7
Guess who doesn’t care about that!! The DM, who ran with Elizabeth’s Velvet Torch dress ID. Again, there is no way to know for sure - but as someone who is *also* pregnant, I can tell you that dress looks so uncomfortable and impractical for pregnancy. 4/7
Elizabeth (@meghansfashion, who is very good and has years of experience) was extremely clear! She said it was a close match, provided another close match, and basically said “there’s no way to know for sure”. But the large-scale media prob didn’t read that far. 5/7
The DM shared the dress ID, and other outlets picked it up. Less experienced bloggers/accounts took these as confirmation. Experienced bloggers are sitting there like 6/7
The dress had limited stock and quickly sold out. The brand is excitedly promoting a restock. Bloggers/experts have no idea what to do in these situations, but it’s frustrating to see (AGAIN) people spending their hard earned money (IN A PANDEMIC) on the wrong fashion piece. 7/7
Make it stahhhppp.
