The fact that the film is only eligible for one category is so reflective of how American society pigeonholes immigrants. Immigrants are not just one category. Immigrants are multifaceted. #GoldenGlobes
With these kinds of nominations, we continue to perpetuate the notion that what doesn’t conform to a very specific image of Americana is somehow foreign or other. We, as a society, need to check our impulses and prejudices around what does and does not resonate as American.
