This is an expression of the culture that needs to change. Maybe you don't think lifting heavy things is part of your job. Name an Army MOS that would never conceivably have to evacuate a casualty and if I agree I'll also agree that said MOS doesn't need lower body strength.
Secondly, we need to acknowledge how absurdly low the MDL passing standard is for most soldiers - 140#. Some fitness experts claim that the average male novice can DL 133% of his body weight w/minimal training; 101% for a novice woman.
The average American man weighs 198#, and the average American woman weighs 170#. I acknowledge those numbers skew high due to the prevalence of obesity in the US. But still, an average American should have no problem passing the ACFT MDL standard.
And soldiers NEED to be stronger than the average American (anyone remember Army Strong?)
It looks like what the author of this tweet really has beef with is not the ACFT, but the warrior tasks and battle drills and common soldier tasks that informed it.

If so, feel free to state your case to @16thSMA as to why your MOS doesn't need to be able to evacuate a casualty or build a hasty fighting position, etc. Maybe he'll scrap those warrior tasks / common soldier tasks.
Otherwise, go #TakeTheTest, quit whining and help make it better instead. Pick up a f*cking hex bar and DO THE WORK. You'll get better and your fellow soldiers will respect your hustle.

I'm interested to hear from women who have taken the ACFT about this. Are women who fail the LTK doing so because the bar is too big for their hands, or because they don't have the lat and core strength to do a partial pullup and bring their knees to their elbows?
.@TrainingFor600 what did you observe during the pilot program?
This is anecdotal, but she doesn't mention anything about improving grip strength here. She's talking about lat and core strength. @J_Marie_2 any insight you could offer?

I see what you're getting at, but there could be a hundred pretty good reasons for this. For example, "avoid target overkill" and "employ the best weapon for the target," both basic principles of fire control (I know this is Army doctrine but it's relevant nonetheless).
A third principle is "minimize friendly exposure." Why expose the F-35's stealth tech to Russian S-400s hanging out in Syria? Every time we do so the adversary gets another chance to get smarter on how to detect and engage it.
Finally (and this is certainly a criticism) the F-35 costs more than twice as much to fly as the F-15: $44k per hour. Why spend more and risk losing such an exquisite aircraft when a cheaper one will do just as well.

What's even more shocking is the brazen dishonesty of this tweet. Far from "shocking" the military, this policy change is in response to a clear gap in ground forces' ability to shape the battlefield at the tactical level.

First, let's look at the actual policy, so that we can divorce the debate from hysterical rhetoric and ideological fanaticism. Here's the memo from the Secretary of Defense @EsperDoD.
2/
A couple of things worth noting.
1) The DoD will not violate any international legal restrictions regarding the use of landmines. The US is not a signatory to the Ottawa Convention; thus, the treaty carries no international legal weight for us.

2/ process. Take it with a grain of salt, because this is only *my* experience, it is based on a single rep, and I'm sure experiences vary.
3/ BLUF: I liked the process overall. I liked the transparency of knowing exactly what jobs were available. I enjoyed the interview process as well. Nothing like having to sell yourself to an O-6 to force some self-awareness (why, in fact, should you hire me? Good question...)
4/ And of course, in the end, it worked out well for me as I matched with my top 3 preferences and got an RFO to my #1. So there's that. So how did this happy state of affairs come about?
