WTF is this article about Kimberly Klacik, @washingtonpost ? Baltimore is only 20 miles up the road from DC — could you guys not do your homework on this person?
Klacik's breakout moment was a video of trash in Baltimore's alleys that allowed Donald Trump to stand behind her and lob racist attacks at Rep. Elijah Cummings. facebook.com/KimberlyNKlaci…
When Cummings died, Klacik promised to move to the district if elected — a promise she could safely make without any fear of having to make good on it, since Democrats outnumber Republicans there 6:1. baltimoresun.com/politics/bs-md…
Not that it would have been such a hardship to move to the 7th, since the place she describes as "a disgusting rat and rodent infested mess" is actually the second wealthiest majority-black district in the country.
But Klacik wanted to raise her profile, so she threw her hat in the ring for the April special election to replace Cummings. She lost to Rep. Kweisi Mfume, who held the seat in the late 90s, by 49 points. So close!
There was no chance on earth that this person could get elected dog catcher in the 7th, much to less the United States Congress. And yet she hoovered up more than $8M from all over the country for the November rematch. opensecrets.org/races/summary?…
It is hard to state how ridiculous this is. This isn't like a Jaime Harrison or Amy McGrath race where people pour in a lot of cash and try to close the margin. This was Never 👏 Gonna 👏 Happen.
Which brings us to the Post article about POOR POOR Kim Klacik who had NO IDEA that the vendors would siphon off so much of her donations. washingtonpost.com/local/md-polit…
"When I saw it, I almost passed out," she said, presumably batting her eyelashes at the reporters. "These companies — it's a racket. Unfortunately, this is why we ask people to send us checks directly to our P.O. box." washingtonpost.com/local/md-polit…
Grifting at Ricks? Kim Klacik, totally serious for real congressional candidate, is SHOCKED SHOCKED.
Klacik, who knew damn well she had no shot, solicited small dollar donations from people who know nothing about Maryland because she told them she cared about the poor, unfortunate citizens of Baltimore.
Facts entirely NOT IN EVIDENCE.
65% of her donors gave less than $200 a piece. Did those people understand they were sending cash to a grifter who was going to spend $50K on private planes and drive around "her district" in a custom bus? opensecrets.org/races/candidat…
Are we supposed to feel sorry for Klacik, who didn't bother to read her vendor contracts, like she's the real victim here?
THE ENTIRE RACE WAS A SCAM.
The Post notes that Klacik is "now a frequent Fox News and Newsmax commentator" without acknowledging the high probability that this was her goal all along. Raise your conservative profile in an unwinnable race, and go on to collect WingBux. KA CHING!
Despite outraising Mfume 8:1, Klacik lost in November by 43 points. And then ...
Can you guess what happened?
Just guess.
SHE DEMANDED A RECOUNT.
This person literally accused MD's Republican Gov Larry Hogan of conniving with Democrats to steal the seat from her.
Did the Post forget to mention that part? Because it was covered pretty extensively in The Baltimore Sun. And it might be relevant to whether Klacik was a victim of these evil media companies or a knowing participant in a scam herself. baltimoresun.com/politics/elect…
Because the entire campaign was a scam, from start to finish. This person was never going to get within 30 points of Mfume. And it was a scam that exploited the citizens of Baltimore to raise a sh*t ton of money.
I'm a white lady, so I will leave it to others to discuss the racial dimensions of her advertising. But ... it was DISGUSTING.
So maybe don't make this person out to be a victim of an overweaning conservative media ecosystem. She wanted to play this game, and she's making out like a bandit.
Full disclosure, I contributed to Mfume in the general. Because I saw her stupid signs every six feet in the median strip and worried she might be able to buy this seat.
I should have had more faith in the good people of the 7th.

They're like SO MAD YOU GUYS that these local officials submitted grant proposals for their own cities and not the whole state. Unlegal!
Would you faint from shock if I told you that the statute which supposedly says ballot drop boxes are "so seriously in violation of the Wisconsin Election Code" doesn't actually mention drop boxes?
Oh, hey, remember when Victoria Toensing and Joe diGenova claimed that Parnas was their "translator" for work with Dmitry Firtash, so communications with him were privileged?
I'd like to solve the puzzle, Pat. Also, the puzzle as to why Rudy needs a pardon.
Remember when Victoria Toensing referred to Parnas as her assistant, like he was moonlighting as a paralegal? usatoday.com/story/news/201…
