Listening to Amber Frost interview Catherine Liu and not only am I LEARNING a lot about MatERialiSm, it's a SUPER FunnY show! They are the best! soundcloud.com/chapo-trap-hou…
Ha ha! Amber praises Dr. Spock (child rearing author) for restoring traditionalist working class techniques lost to suburbanization without realizing Liu's book trashes him for coddling PMC kids who went on to be spoiled "fascists" as she calls the entire 68 student movement.
Now Amber is comparing a "PMC" viagra ad to a "working class" one and noting how cliched the working class one is with a "USA" logo and bare bones presentation. Like, doesn't that match these Nationalist Left type's fetishizing Norman Rockwellization of blue collar workers?
They're getting lost up their own butts on this one.
"All of these [PMC] people HATE pleasure." I'm sensing a theme with Liu's shoot from the hip BS "critique."
Liu from her aufhebunga bunga interview on the 68rs:
Liu often mentions Ehrenreich's "Fear of Falling." But Liu's strategy for outreach jettisons socialist ideals seen as "idpol" to highlight national identity and "real" workers (not effete eggheaded PMC), much like the New Right did according to Ehrenreich. libcom.org/library/barbar…
Liu notes the PMC wants to destroy "universalism" for the belief that "everyone is different" but she also constantly attacks the recent BLM protests because how could a "Black led" uprising have any class content? This is just racist, sorry. It's certainly not "materialist."
Perfect that Liu follows CTH's Adam Curtis episode. Liu in her book trys a couple of Curtis like connections. Whether Curtis is useful or not, this attempt by Frost and Liu, connecting Stalinism, viagra, microdosing LSD, environmentalism, anti-universalism + the PMC is a mess.
It's a bit of a flaw when you have a really high amount of self-efficacy, and you mix it with tenure, and this casual "rappin' with friends" format, while you discuss your work, you might think you sound more profound than you really do. Her book is similarly casual and sloppy.
Right after I tweeted about the disconnect between Liu's self-assessment as a brilliant materialist and her presentation, she says the problem with PMC /recent generations being too much self-esteem. She's in this Spiked/Chapo/Jacobin bubble that tells her she's a genius. Ironic.
