2 years ago today I was fuming as I heard the Blairite Labour MP, Siobhain McDonagh, agree with John Humphreys on Radio 4, that "to be anti-capitalist you have to be antisemitic". She was doing her best to undermine Jeremy Corbyn at the time instead of attacking the Tories. 1/4
How stupid must she feels today, knowing that she helped usher in our most murderous Tory Government ever, which is now trying to salvage itself by borrowing some economic policies from Corbyn's 2017 manifesto! Starmer, meanwhile, opposes Tory plans to raise Corporation Tax. 2/4
Here are some beautiful Yiddish anti-capitalist words by Sh. Ansky in 1902 to honour the Jewish Workers' Bund: "Mir shvern tsu himl a blutiker has.
tsum merder un royber fun arbeter klas,
der keyser, di hersher, di kapitalistn,
mir shvern zey alemen farnikhtn, farvistn" 3/4
They translate as: "We swear to heaven a bloody hatred to those who murder and rob the working class – the Tsar, the rulers, the capitalists, we swear that they will all be devastated and destroyed." Not by Blairites who themselves use antisemitic stereotypes they won't. 4/4

The chutzpah of @BoardofDeputies knows no bounds. As willing soldiers in the British establishment's war on Corbyn, they helped to install Boris Johnson, while turning a blind eye not only to Johnson's Islamophobia, anti-black racism, homophobia, his antisemitic novel, 1/2
but also the verifiable links of the Tory Party with other racist and anti-immigrant parties and government across Europe. BoD are continuing their personal vendetta by issuing a joint statement with a Zionist advocacy group in Canada attacking a scheduled event on 20 March. 2/7
Organised by Progressive International, Canada's New Democratic Party MP Niki Ashton and Corbyn will discuss "Building Solidarity" in the context of "growing inequality... rise of the far right... the threat of climate change... the Covid crisis... austerity, privatization". 3/7

If ICC set the beginning of the investigation earlier, the BoD would find another excuse to rubbish it or call it "compromised". The BoD sees its role as defending the interests of Jews in Britain. Why should that mean defending the Israeli government+military from scrutiny? 1/5
Why fear investigation if you think Israel's actions are defensible? You could ask that the investigation start in 2013 but you do know that B'Tselem reported: "Three times as many people were killed in the West Bank in 2013 as were in 2012." Most were Palestinian civilians. 2/5
And who do the BoD think they are speaking for when they try to rubbish this investigation? Every major survey of British Jewish opinion for many years has found a majority of Jews in Britain opposed to the continued occupation, and more are now willing to air that publicly. 3/5

Glad the Estonian government collapsed this week in a corruption scandal, especially as the ruling coalition has included the Far Right Conservative People's Party (EKRE) - a virulently anti-immigrant party led by Martin Helme, which went from 7 to 19 seats in 2020. 1/4
In a 2013 interview, Helme stated: "Our immigration policy should have one simple rule: If you're black, go back", adding "I want Estonia to be a white country." When EKRE joined the Gov't in 2019, Estonia's small Jewish community expressed its grave concerns for minorities. 2/4
That year the Estonian Chief Rabbi was racially abused on his way to synagogue. EKRE's website dismissed this as "fake news" even though a man was held by police.t is likely that the new government will exclude EKRE from its coalition. EKRE do have friends abroad though. 3/4

Earlier this week, a prominent Labour politician was asked in an interview at a Zoom event, which Tory politician he most admired. He answered “I had a degree of admiration for Teresa May. I knew what her moral framework was.” 1/4
Astonishing, given that a few years ago, as Home Secretary she proudly celebrated the introduction of the Hostile Environment from the rostrum at Tory Conference and oversaw the implementation of every cruel aspect to it. We know what that "achieved": 2/4
the Windrush Scandal: many British citizens who arrived as children from the Caribbean, denied benefits later in life, some deported to destitution and dying early, both here and there; the demonisation of migrants and refugees; the cruelty inflicted in detention centres. 3/4

As a former teacher in an inner-London primary teacher - 23 years – and NUT rep for 22 of those, I really feel for all staff being forced to work in intolerable and dangerous conditions by politicians, who have granted themselves more recess time because of safety concerns. 1/5
In those 23 years I can honestly say that I only encountered teachers who had the care and welfare of the children they taught as their No.1 priority. As a retired teacher I am proud to still represent my local union branch as International Soilidarity Officer. 2/5
A global perspective is useful: I have visited several countries where teachers are valued+treated with higher esteem by their governments than in this country. All school staff here, children+their families are put at risk by a government that puts the "economy" over safety. 3/5

Any claim by Labour’s leaders and acting General Secretary, that draconian actions suppressing debates on issues ordinary Labour members rightly regard as contentious, are being done to ensure safe spaces for Jewish members, was blown apart by a revelation this week. 1/5
That revelation is that 35 Jewish LP members have been investigated this year, presumably on "anonymous" complaints, with nearly 1/3 of them disciplined – mainly through suspension. Twelve of those 35 have now made a joint statement about this intolerable action. 2/5
Their statement will be welcomed by many other Jewish members who resent the assumption that Jews in the LP are snowflakes incapable of hearing, or indeed sharing, views that are rightly critical of the Israeli government for its racist, oppressive treatment of Palestinians. 3/5
