Every person deserves respect. The moment disrespect or assault, etc occurs is when reciprocity flies outta the window.
"But they're family" is a way to manipulate the situation. To gaslight one's experience. Nah we done with that...FIN
Another issue I have is when folx say, "respect your elders" even when said elders are disrespectful. Nah show respect and you'll receive it in return! This ain't gon' be one-sided
