Last night, the NYPD stopped one of my team members, who is Black, without legal justification. He was forced to present ID and approximately 120 of our signatures were stolen by police. This is was a horrifying violation of both the canvasser and signatories' rights. (1/3)
I want to thank the 700 neighbors who signed for us just yesterday. They ensured that, despite the theft, we will be on the ballot. I am also deeply grateful to @kallos and @cmenchaca for immediately offering statements of clear support for New Yorkers' political rights. (2/3)
We are running a campaign to ensure every family has the opportunity to thrive in District 5 and NYC. Our rights should never be limited by the color of our skin, our country of origin, our religion, our gender or our sexual orientation. Thank you all for your support. ❤️ (3/3)
