Spent a happy morning helping with lateral flow testing at my daughter's school this morning. Very well organised and the students were amazing, given what's being asked of them. But......
There are *huge* issues with the website (sounds like @peston will sympathise) and @PHE_uk@JimBethell need to sort it out (and maybe investigate why it was done so badly). It's not that it doesn't work - it's just rubbish
It was clearly tested on a computer in a nice warm office. Not in a draughty sports hall (got to have that ventilation). And given that most of the students are registering using their phones
For example - silly things like text boxes can't deal with extra spaces after a post code. Tiny bit of code to deal with that - just needs a touch of forethought.
The "I'm not a robot" check - that's fine. So maybe have an alternative when the recaptcha doesn't come up on the screen. And the alternative is *not* going back to the beginning
But the most, *most* stupid thing of all - and I'm sure @JimBethell will want to have words - is the URL. For those students who don't have a phone, so use a laptop, they can't use the QR code.... so maybe provide a URL that works.....
Here it is.... now the trouble is that the daft sysadmin behind the website forgot to enable this to resolve to the website without putting “www” on the front
So all morning I had students getting lost - because this doesn't work as a web address, their browser treats it as a search. And then they get lost.
So maybe @JimBethell and @PHE_uk could do a bit (let's say about 10 minutes) work on that website to improve it.
Because for all the amazing things that are getting done to fight Covid, this is a needless bit of grit in the wheel that a tiny bit of care would have avoided. /rant over
