A new Gallup poll finds that Americans' opinion of Russia and China have plummeted to historic lows this year, with 79 percent of the population now reporting an unfavorable view of China and 77 percent reporting an unfavorable view of Russia. news.gallup.com/poll/331082/ch…
In a recent @MintPressNews article titled "After Years of Propaganda, American Views of Russia and China Hit Historic Lows", @AlanRMacLeod points the finger at the obvious culprit in this shift in public opinion: mintpressnews.com/propaganda-ame…
And, I mean, of course this is the case. There is no rational reason for anyone to hold particularly negative views of either of those countries based on actual facts in evidence, and there is certainly no rational reason to perceive them as a threat.
You can expand this principle to include the entirety of US foreign policy on the global stage today.
Indeed, you can also expand this principle to include our entire financial/economic/political system as a whole.
Propaganda is the single most overlooked and under-emphasized aspect of our society, bar none. It's so pervasive that most of us don't even notice it, like that old joke about the two fish who are asked "How's the water?" and then turn to each other and say "What's water?"
How often do you hear your average citizens discussing the fact that billionaires own the mass media which is consistently used to manufacture consent for the agendas of the plutocratic class, compared to how often you hear them talking about, say, the next presidential election?
Even among leftists (by which I mean anti-imperialist socialists) this is a severely under-discussed issue, when it should be the MOST discussed,
Until fighting the empire's propaganda engine becomes the agenda the left focuses the bulk of its energy on, none of its other agendas will ever come to pass.
How do we do this? We just do it. We begin focusing our efforts, for the first time ever, on drawing public attention to the fact that the mass media have been deceiving them. caityjohnstone.medium.com/how-to-defeat-…
For the first time ever we begin in sufficient numbers to prioritize above all else the disruption of public trust in the mass media and the imperial narrative management scams which keep everyone from clearly seeing what's wrong with the world. We seize control of the narrative.
Information has never been more democratized, and trust in the mass media has never been more low. The opportunity to expand awareness of what's really happening in our world has never been riper. caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/all-of-human…
All we need to do is seize on this opportunity and wake the working class out of its propaganda-induced coma before the window on that possibility closes on us forever.

If people were sufficiently aware of what their government is doing, what oligarchs are doing, what banks are doing, what the military is doing, those power structures would be unable to operate in the way that they do, because people would rise up collectively to stop them.
This is why so much energy goes into protecting government secrecy, circulating mass media propaganda, promoting internet censorship and jailing journalists who reveal too much: they are preventing awareness of the truth from spreading so they can continue operating in the dark.
The most destructive force on our planet is human unconsciousness. Unconsciousness of the realities of large-scale human power dynamics, and unconsciousness of our own inner dynamics. The most compassionate desire you can have for the world is for the expansion of consciousness.
Expansion of consciousness just means a growing awareness of truth. A growing awareness of the truth of our large-scale collective dynamics as a species, and a growing awareness of our inner processes as individuals. All of our problems trace back to a lack of this awareness.
The most noble intention you can have for the world is therefore for everyone to become aware of the truth. The truth within, and the truth without, whatever that might be. If this happened, all our collective problems would vanish. Suffering and full consciousness can't coexist.
Stop protecting sexual predators. All of them. Not just the ones in the rival political faction. This sick dynamic where each side only criticizes the predation of the other side rests on the unspoken, bat shit insane premise that only the other faction has men who are predators.
The way sexual predation by powerful men is only ever attacked by their political rivals proves that rape still in 2021 is not taken seriously by our society. Still to this day it is first and foremost a weapon of political convenience, not an urgent problem which must be solved.
Still in 2021 it's "Yes rape culture is bad, half of us will deal with it when it is politically convenient for us to do so."
Sure is odd how western mass media pour so much energy into convincing the world to trust an obscure foreign "rescue" group on the other side of the planet, given that pulling people out of buildings in a far off nation would in fact require no trust from any foreigners at all.
Hi we're the western media and it's very, very, VERY important that you place your explicit trust in this obscure foreign rescue group for some reason. We will tell you this over and over again until you accept it as true.
Almost like the White Helmets really are, as John Pilger famously said, a complete propaganda construct.
The People Haven't Risen Up For The Same Reason Abuse Victims Don't Leave Their Abusers
“People say, ‘Oh, it can’t have been that bad, because she would’ve left.’ And it’s like, no, because it was that bad, I couldn’t leave.”
~ FKA twigs on Shia LaBeouf caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/the-people-h…
There was a great exchange in a recent interview with singer-songwriter FKA twigs regarding her relationship with actor Shia LaBeouf, who she is currently suing for "relentless abuse" including assault and sexual battery.
"Because it was that bad, I couldn't leave."
This is what so few people understand about abusive relationships. People see friends and family members stuck in relationships that are obviously horrible and say "She should leave him! Why doesn't she just leave??"
