1) Brushing technique:
Toothpastes don’t do miracles, its ur technique. Dont be harsh on ur teeth n gums while brushing.
Go with small circular strokes. NO horizontal brushing! Brushing for 2mins is enough
2) Brush your teeth twice a day.
Flossing the right way is better than not flossing at all as it will remove the food particles entangled between the teeth.
3)Mouthwash containing Chlorhexidine reduces the bacteria and help to prevent decay but overuse can stain ur teeth!
So use it when it’s being prescribed by ur dentist. Mouthwash can nevr be d alternative of brushing.
4)sugarfree chewing gums containing Xylitol help reducing bacteria in mouth n increase the salivary flow that helps to fight decay. But don’t use it when u have crown/ bridges.
5) Avoid Sugary food and fizzy drinks..specially in between meals.
Avoid brushing ur teeth straight after eating acidic food or drinks to help prevent enamel erosion.
Acid reflux also causes erosion of teeth.
6) Visit ur dentist every six months to get the evaluation ur teeth and early detection of any caries (by xrays if needed ) as prevention is always better than cure!
7) Scaling every six months or atleast annually is also required to get rid of gum disease as it will remove plaque and calculus and make ur gums healthy...specially when u have diabetes, heart problems or pregnancy.
8) Go for fillings if u have any caries in ur teeth or else it will damage the pulp (nerve) of the tooth and it might need Root Canal Treatment.
DONT SKIP THE CROWN at the end of the RCT or else tooth will be broken.
9) In case of a missing tooth, go for a bridge or implant to fill the gap to avoid tilting and drifting of adjacent and/ opponent tooh.
10) Avoid stress!! Not only for ur mental health but ur oral health too! This is the example of stress induced erosive lichen planus which can lead to malignancy.
11) Most of the parents come to my clinic with the complaint of the delayed eruption of their kids’ teeth. And i have to assure them by taking xrays. Most of the teeth erupt according to the guideline but its always possible of variation of +/- 1 to 2 years.
12) Food habits:
Green leafy vegetables, cheese, nuts, milk, fruits containing Vit A &C are healthy fr teeth & gums
Unsweetened tea & water help to flush away d decaying food particles & dilute d effects of acid
13) To sum up, take care of ur teeth, they will take care of ur health and wallet too.
