JID (pronounced “yid”, short for Jewish Israeli Dissent) is a network of Jewish Israelis in Leipzig engaging critically with our home country’s politics and history. jidleipzig.wordpress.com/2021/03/05/wel…
We felt the political situation in Leipzig’s left and alternative spaces is something we cannot stand for, and decided we need to work together to change things.
We have watched in horror as people with an immigration background have been bullied, silenced, and threatened by supposed leftists, all in the name of “solidarity with Israel.”
We are startled at how such critical people fail to realize that their “solidarity” only serves the strongest, most politically regressive parts of the society we grew up in.
We are sick of seeing passionate, but completely uninformed conversations about Israel, based only on the right wing of the Israeli political spectrum – even in leftist spaces.
We decided to speak up, as Jewish Israelis.
One of our goals is to be able to voice a clear collective response in cases where Israel-Palestine politics are abused to silence progressive voices. And while we were getting started, two different incidents happened around us, which we can now finally respond to publicly.
