Today, as part of the protest for the international women's day I joined along with the women of @l_amazone_ the brave survivors of CAPP (the collective for the abolition of pornography and prostitution). There were about 15 of us.
We managed to climb the statue in the Place de la République and show off our banners condemning the violence suffered by women in the porno prostitution industry. The messages read: "We want more means for women to get out of prostitution", "Porn producers = pimps", ImageImage
"If your feminism profits pimps then it's not feminism", "If you promote prostitution as work then you're in the wrong side of history", "Porn prostitution is a war against women" etc. After, an activist tried to tear a banner calling a pro prostitution organization a pimp lobby.
(The org. pretends to be a union for sex workers when in fact they lobby to have prostitution recognized as work and always fail to condemn male violence suffered by prostituted women blaming instead abolitionists and the government for criminalizing the act of buying sex).
After that we formed a kind of barricade at the foot of the statue to make sure no one manages to climb it and attack the ones who were at the top with the banners.
An hour after, tens of queer activists came in front of the statue and started yelling
"my body, my choice and shut the fck up" and "SWERFs" to our sisters on top of the statue. They also yelled "No feminism without whores". They then started throwing eggs at us and tried to spray us in the eyes with red spray paint. They attacked all the ones who were at the foot
Of the statue, hitting us and tearing the banners we were holding. We yelled back "male violence", "MRAs" they then started yelling "transphobes" and giving us the finger and started chanting "one terf, one bullet, social justice!".
They started spray painting at the bottom of the statue "Save a trans person, kill a terf"
We were all shoked at the degree of violence we were going through. Our sisters at the top of statue (who are in majority prostitution survivors) were traumatized and some of them cried. Image
We still managed to keep them from climbing the statue but after over 4h we started to worry about how we would manage to leave the protest and get home. They lined up in front of us and made nazi gestures at us. Some of them
started emptying beer bottles and mimicking throwing them at us. The police refused to escort us out and simply told us that if we were attacked they would intervene. Women from other feminist organization as well as a female elected representative came to our rescue and formed
A circle around us to protect us and escort us to the nearest subway station.
I have never seen this much violence at a feminist protest directed at women. Our attackers were carrying trans and antifa flags, a lot of them were men and not one of the banners they were holding
Had the word "woman" on it. There were many talking about trans rights and how trans people have their space in feminism and how March the 8th is about the right of "sexed people". Yes sexed people in order to avoid saying "woman".
Please share this thread, the situation in France is getting more and more serious. Their violence is visible and completely unapologetic. We refuse to stop protesting patriarcal oppressions but we're getting more and more scared for our safety.
The ones amongst us who have their identities shown on social media get constant death threats from TRAs. This can't keep going, please share
