My first job was at McDonald's when I was 14. I made $4.25/hr. But bc my adoptive parents (receiving an adoption subsidy for me) were horrid, they then made me pay for all my own shit. Soap, shampoo, tampons, clothes, if I wanted food outside their rules... 1/
Example of rules: no snacks, 1 slice of meat on a sandwich, 1 bowl of cereal for breakfast, the food they bought was always the cheapest, sometimes expired food. While they had all the good shit and ate it in front of us. 2/
Once I started making more money as a server at a bar, they'd let the water get shut off bc they knew I'd have to go pay it if I wanted a shower. They'd make me pay for and make dinner once a week for our 14 person family...
My point is, teens should make a decent wage too. Some are supporting families, some aren't earning gas $, they're trying to buy a car. Some aren't earning spending $, they're paying for their own college. And some (me) could have used that $ to run from their
State sanctioned abusers the second they turned 18.
