Writing a newsletter EVERYDAY is intellectually rewarding.

But it's obviously exhausting, and you need a process to make work manageable. Here's how we do it everyday 👇
1/ 11:00 AM

We kick off by reading articles for the day.

Check headlines for important stuff over a few trusted free sources. By now we have a good hang of the leading sources for Indian news.
2/ 1:00 PM

We hop on a team standup where we discuss things that need to be done, or planned for.

By 2pm or so we have an idea of what news we are going to cover.
3)

For 3 months or so in the beginning, it used to be just me, writing a synopsis and compiling everything and then making the newsletter.

Now we split 4-5 stories between 2-3 writers, including @Ruchir_V26 who writes a couple.

We split work on slack.
4)

We use 3-4 different source articles to understand the topic and then we summarize key points in the least number of words we could use.

By the time we're done writing its 6:00 - 7:00 PM.
5) 7:00 PM

We go data hunting, looking for stats on market sizes, growth, and such that would leave readers with insights and perspective.

Once 80% of the content is nailed, I start making the newsletter.

This is where we pick the memes.
6)

When I'm done migrating the content on Substack, @tejas_rd who edits our work checks in to make sure we don't say anything silly.
7) 7:00 AM

The next morning I get a cup of coffee and review things once more.

We do some fact checking, recheck how things look on my phone, and by 8 AM blast off the emails.
Bottomline: We optimize for insight over “news”, fresh ideas and perspective over “hey this happened” too.

Our end goal is to say things nobody else cares to say, in a language that everyone can understand. 🙌
Hoping to do more threads like these so other side hustlers learn from each other on how to improve their operations.

Last note: all of us including @wtfishika who handles growth, work on @FilterCoffeeHQ remotely. 🔥
