Before we start:

I’m not going to give a story about Mario’s life.

Some of you may know him. Some not.

That is besides the point....

His rise in internet status is a VALUABLE lesson for ALL internet marketers in ANY niche.

LETS BEGIN.
As you know, labels/agencies etc. HAD to have been involved.

This is not the case for every artist. But for Mario. It is.

To what degree did it help him?
Well honestly..

I don’t know.

And I don’t think it matters.

AT ALL.

SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER ?!?
MEMES.

MARIO TOOK IT TO THE EXTREME.

With his breakout song, “Die Very Rough” Mario goes absolutely BALLS TO THE WALL with vocals and the beat.

He created something very DIFFERENT and EXTREME.

THUS BECOMING EXTREMELY ****MEMEABLE.*****

His song caught the attention of a record label.

They saw opportunity to monetize his song.

They offered to create a video for the very extreme song and well...

Here comes the fun part:
With his red hair and rugged/psycho video appearance

This helped set up MEMEABLE CONTENT for MONTHS TO COME

Now...

What I am about to dive into could have easily been planned / scheduled on the backend or it could have happened on the go
Look, I would say I am a big rap/hip-hop fan.

On my personal Instagram, I followed a lot of Rap accounts : news, videos, debates, you name it.

And guess what:
They would ALL post Mario Judah content: Memes, music video clips, pics. Etc.

This ranged from accounts with 1K followers <———>28.8M followers.

Not to mention probably plenty more I was not following.

They didn’t do this once. But CONSISTENTLY.
With this method: Mario was able to lock in the ***ATTENTION*** of followers of the accounts with cult followings ( 1K - 30K range) to the BIG *verified* accounts (100k - 30M range)
Scrolling through the comments: you would see 1 of 2 things:

Either people LOVED the memes

Or people HATED seeing that guy on their feed.

Either way. He is at the forefront of the consumers mind. CONSTANTLY.
Now hear me out...

These were not just any memes being pushed into the public eye...

These were STRATEGIC MEMES.

What do I mean?

1. If I was the consumer... and I saw some red headed attention seeker on my timeline.

I would assume that mf paid for promotion...

- which is why..... MARIO JUDAH WOULD NOT GET TAGGED IN MAJORITY OF THE POSTS.

- sometimes, THEY WOULDN’T EVEN DROP HIS NAME
1.2) this caused for confusion in the consumer to start thinking,

“woah maybe I should actually check out this guy... what is all this fuss about ?!?!”

Instead of “chase the bag 💰” comments implying Mario bought promo (which he most likely did)
1.3) I saw Mario go from around 30k followers to 800k or whatever he’s at now.

Not being Tagged in his own marketing posts was smart move to avoid being seen “as paying for clout.”

Chances are, you could find out who he was in the comments.
2) RELEVANT MEMES

Ex: playboi carti was catching shit for not dropping WLR

Mario & co. Capitalized on this by:

Pushing a video snippet of what appears to be Mario saying he will leak WLR.
Not only did this snippet go viral, but turns out the song in the background that people were obsessing was Mario’s New song yet to be released.

Well played Mario. Building hype for your own song / brand while capitalizing on the hype of another artist.
2.1) PERFORMING DABABY’s hit song ROCKSTAR with no permission at rolling loud

His exaggerated and all over the place behavior paved the way for more memes & caught the attention of famous ig comedian Druski

This allowed both to capitalize on each other’s following.
Not to mention. Druski the comedian is big in the rap scene. Friends with people such as drake, yg, etc.

This gives Mario more and more social “credit” and “attention” from all over the place!

Wherever you have eyes, you have money 💰
Now. To RECAP.

1. Hack the culture from the inside out. Whether that means hitting accounts with sub 1K followers to accounts with millions. BE the subject of conversation
2. Not just once, BUT CONSISTENTLY.

I know, promo can get expensive.

Create relationships with these accounts and let them know you plan to do a drawn out campaign over x amount of time.

Prices go down

Must fit into their feed / is engaging
3. As the great @FrazzleDazzzled once said ...

“free advertising from the haters, customer loyalty from the fans...

Even if you HATE them , even if you LOVE them...

You are always going to be at the forefront of the markets mind.”
