100 years ago today, Willie Loughnane (23) was assassinated in his bed by the RIC. A group of masked RIC men snuck into the home, which had been marked by an informant, and shot him four times. The father of the prominent Loughnane household was an IRA man, as were his four sons. 
They also fired shots at his mother after she shouted at them out of the window afterwards. The British set up machine gun posts around his funeral, and refused to allow his coffin to leave the church until the Irish tricolour was removed from it.
