The future core of the ISIS network that attacked Europe
Salah Abdeslam, Abdel Hamid Abaaoud and Mohammed Abrini all lived and grew up together in the same neighbourhood in Molenbeek.
According to a family member, Salah started his criminal trajectory around age 10
In May 2013, Salah and his older brother Brahim (who committed one of the suicide attacks in Paris) opened a bar in Molenbeek, Les Béguines. They used it for drug trafficking
Salah and the others started radicalising after Abaaoud left for Syria
Salah never went to Syria, “but he knew he didn’t have to go to Syria... He had another target... attacking Europe”
His brother Brahim however bragged about leaving for Syria in January 2015
before Brahim left the house for Paris, he went up to his parents bedroom and kissed his mother’s forehead. And even though she was fast asleep she remembers her son’s last kiss
In this letter Salah tells his mother he pledged allegiance to Abū Bakr al-Baghdādī and that his brother Brahim died as a hero for Islam

Most remarkable: one expert explains (not in detail, luckily) which ingredients you need to cook your own TATP and make suicide vest

September 2015.
After Brahim (just back from Syria with instructions) and Salah spent some time together in Bouyafar, Morocco, a family member reported both brothers to Brussels police. Both returned. The intel wasn’t used
Quote:
“Verviers #Belgium January 2015 was a key moment: for the very first time we were confronted with the fact that ISIS was aiming for organised attacks in Europe”
(!!)
After the arrest of Salah Abdeslam some Walloon newspaper leaked the pictures of the al-Bakraaoui brothers. It is thought that this publication led to the attacks in Brussels. The Bakraaoui’s supposedly wanted to attack a bigger target but panicked
Another fact that led to an escalation: a press conference by the French Minister Molins publicly communicating Salah’s statements.
Then Salah, incarcerated in Bruges, turned silent. Mehdi Nemmouche, the Jewish Museum attacker, was (conveniently) locked up in the same block 🤦♂️
