1). “Unity” thread alert. Let’s address this issue of unity. I have had some people call me and suggest I throttle back on my Country First movement in the interest of “unity.” First, the idea that country first values violates unity is of itself a concern..
2) but ok for a moment let’s say I did that. Now the many millions of people who feel homeless under the current GOP and Dem parties would not be represented. We “unify” a shrinking base. If i call out the former President and the insurrection, I threaten unity...
3) when the president calls out the 17 members who voted their conscience (that’s why we swear an oath to cover these moments when it’s not popular but needed) as enemies, how is that for unity? How does that make us a big tent party?
4). Instead what is being demanded is not unity, but surrender. The GOP can have immediate peace in its ranks if it surrenders to the loudest angriest voices. If we would simply accept that Donald Trump is popular in the party and make no effort to present a new vision...
5) maybe we can win an election. But to what end? So the party that forgot it’s way and it’s centering principles can govern unmoored from its founding values? So we can yell louder and teach the next generation that governing isn’t serious, but instead a dark plot in a movie?
6). No. The battle in the GOP and the purpose of @COUNTRY_F1RST isn’t to unity under the white flag, but to regain the party that called upon our better angels. I want to unify the nation, my party is simply a club to help advance those values, if we don’t forget them.
7) It’s time to take a stand against fear, division, and anger. And remind fellow Americans of the value of each person, no matter who they are. That’s a GOP I can unify under. #restoreourgop #country1st
