Level 1: Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki
弱キャラ友崎くん, Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun or Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki is a series of Japanese light novels written by Yūki Yaku.

First published in 2016, the story revolves around Fumiya Tomozaki, a high school student who has lived as a social outcast throughout his school life.

He is an avid gamer of a popular video game called Attack Families, summarized as Atafami, going on to become Japan's # 1 gamer. Topping leaderboards charts with the name "nanashi".

As he often compares both his real life and his game life, he considers Atafami a "god-tier game" where there is a perfect balance, as the same amount of effort is rewarded with the same amount of success.

Where in contrast, real life, which he calls a "trash game", does not have a walkthrough, has character strength predetermined when you're born and unexplainable imbalances.

His perspectives begin to change when it is revealed to him that his perfect classmate Aoi Hinami, who has all along been behind him in second place on the Atafami leaderboards, regards real life as a game where he can be better, thus offering to become his walkthrough guide.

When it comes to light novels, one of the main thoughts that run through one's mind is: Will it have an anime? Like many other recognized works within the genre, Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun's novel had the opportunity to see its story finally animated.

It was in the Anime Winter of Season 2021, when the anime of Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun came to light, thanks to the studio Project No.9. @projectNo9

Established in 2009, Project No9. is an animation studio recognized for the development of anime, among which stand out: Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?, Ryuuou no Oshigoto! and Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou.

It debuted in 2019 with the release of their first single "Hajimete no Kakumei", which was used as the opening theme of the anime Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu!.

In general, it is common to hear or see comparisons with other similar products, making recurring the existence of comments that somehow relate two different elements.

The genre, the plot, the storyline, the personalities of the characters, are some of the aspects that people rely on to make comparisons.

The similarities with Yahari ore no seishun love come wa machigatteiru, also called Oregairu, make the comparison recurrent respecting to the themes that are covered in both series.

Even so, these two do not have much in common, since, although they deal with similar topics, the approach of both series is completely different from each other.

Likewise, the theme of strategies and videogames has generated comparisons with Gamers!. However, both works differ quite a bit in terms of their narrative and atmosphere. Being Gamers! a series focused mostly on the implications of games in general.

Also, the little information about the series has even produced comparisons with Saenai Kanojo no Sodatekata, also called SaeKano. Taking as an excuse the fact that Aoi helps Tomozaki to turn him into an ideal boyfriend prospect. Quite far from reality.

The right thing to do is to enjoy each story separately, valuing the pleasant moments that reading a novel or watching an anime offers. The best is to praise each one by its own virtues.
