Let's talk about autism & schoolwork, especially lengthy assignments; ones involving a series of complex tasks. Some teachers are more understanding than others. As I watch my kid struggle with yet another CAT where I've had to step in, I still question why IEPs are disregarded.
Virtual school has seen the IEP ignored each & every quadmester. Nothing is modified. When my child advocates for more time the response is "do your best". There is no "best" here. My kid is struggling. We're both stressed out by all the work & keeping it all organized. Who else?
Discussions with resource with both virtual and home school has been one of "do all you can so Jay gets the credit". Let me tell you, these teachers and support staff are all tired and it shows. Kids are struggling. The ministry has no plan for how to help kids with autism online
I don't think there's even a plan to help those not on the spectrum. My sister is a teacher and her hours are longer. On top of teaching she's doing wellness checks with all her students. Productivity had dropped. Kids aren't coping. This new normal is hard for them all.
My kid barely logs into class or stays connected long enough to be engaged. Teachers following ministry orders to try to keep the kids "on task". I'm not asking for my kid to be able to skate by but the online curriculum clearly didn't account for kids with autism. No way man.
