RESTRICTIVE VOTING LAWS: A thread (1/5)

Republicans have proposed 250+ laws in 45 states designed to limit early, mail-in, in-person, and Election Day voting.

... Inspired in part by Trump's false claims this election was stolen.
(2/5)

Republicans may have the power to achieve these limits.

They hold legislative majorities/governorships in 24 states. And they've proposed restrictions in 22 states.
(3/5)

Among the states considering the voting restrictions:

—5 states that Biden turned blue last year.

—And the 3 large states he lost by less than 5 points.

*All* have Republican legislatures.
(4/5)

The bills would likely curtail the early voting methods using this past election by Democratic voters.

NOTE: The highest-profile recent example of election fraud was in 2018 — in North Carolina Republican Mark Harris's 9th district campaign.
(5/5)

... All told, the bills amount to the greatest effort to reduce ballot access — particularly for African Americans — since the Jim Crow era.

@RepJerryNadler takes the floor and says "we all saw it coming."

"We have a duty to observe, Madam Speaker that racism played a direct role in this incitement."
"The Democrats have won everything in sight. The House, the Senate and the presidency. In a republic that calls for magnanimity by the victors. Only in a banana republic, does it call for vengeance," says @RepMcClintock as House debate on impeachment continues.
