A Few years ago, I visited China for the first time. It was a long flight but the aircraft- China Southern airlines is probably the best I have ever used.
Food perfect, service - topnotch. After a long flight , finally landed at the airport, that was the beginning of wahala
From immigration to Airport shop, nobody could speak English. It was at the start of my love for travel, I was so pissed. How could nobody in a so-called superpower not understand English!
Watch me try to explain that I needed to get SIM card and load it
Trying to get the hotel was worse, I booked a hotel , but the address was written in English and Taxi driver couldn’t even understand what was written
Eventually found a guy who understood and told me I could take a train and exact stop plus the fact that the hotel wasn’t far
I got on the train, the fastest I have ever been on.
No conversation, no phone calls, no music, nothing. It was just the sound of the train traveling at high speed and the broadcast from the train. Later I found out it was rude to talk on the trains, especially on your phone.
I think that was my first culture shock experience not sure!
