Public hearings will begin next week in Puerto Rico about a bill in the Senate to ban conversion therapy forever. Presently, conversion therapy is banned by an executive order signed by fmr. Gov @ricardorossello. Here’s what leading medical associations says about that therapy👇🏻
The American Academy of child and adolescent psychiatry finds “no evidence to support the application of any “therapeutic intervention” operating under the premise that a specific sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression is pathological...”
“...Furthermore, based on scientific evidence, the AACAP asserts that such “conversion therapies” (or other interventions imposed with the intent of promoting a particular sexual orientation and/or gender as a preferred outcome) lack scientific credibility & clinical utility...”
“... Additionally, there is evidence that such interventions are harmful. As a result, “conversion therapies” should not be part of any behavioral health treatment of children and adolescents...”
“...However, this in no way detracts from the standard of care which requires that clinicians facilitate the developmentally appropriate, open exploration of sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression, without any pre-determined outcome.”aacap.org/aacap/policy_s…
The American Medical Association: “Underlying these ‘therapies’ is the assumption that homosexuality and gender nonconformity are mental disorders and that sexual orientation and gender identity can be changed. This assumption is not based on medical or scientific evidence...”
“... Professional consensus rejects pathologizing homosexuality and gender nonconformity and evidence does not support the efficacy of changing sexual orientation...”
“... “Conversion therapy” often includes unethical techniques including electric shock, deprivation of food and liquid, chemically induced nausea and masturbation reconditioning...”
“... These practices may increase suicidal behaviors and cause significant psychological distress, anxiety, lowered self-esteem, internalized homophobia, self-blame, intrusive imagery and sexual dysfunction...”
“... The AMA opposes the use of “conversion therapy” for sexual orientation or gender identity.”
American psychological Association: “Therefore be it resolved that the American Psychological Association affirms that same-sex sexual & romantic attractions, feelings, & behaviors are normal and positive variations of human sexuality regardless of sexual orientation identity...”
“... the American Psychological Association reaffirms its position that homosexuality per se is not a mental disorder and opposes portrayals of sexual minority youths and adults as mentally ill due to their sexual orientation...”
“... Be it further resolved that the American Psychological Association concludes that there is insufficient evidence to support the use of psychological interventions to change sexual orientation...”
“...(the APA)opposes the distortion and selective use of scientific data about homosexuality by individuals and organizations seeking to influence public policy and public opinion and will take a leadership role in responding to such distortions...”
.@APAPsychiatric: “opposes any psychiatric treatment, such as “reparative” or “conversion” therapy, that is based on the assumption that homosexuality...is a mental disorder or is based on the a priori assumption that the patient should change his or her homosexual orientation.”
“... The American Psychiatric Association does not believe that same-sex orientation should or needs to be changed, and efforts to do so represent a significant risk of harm by subjecting individuals to forms of treatment...”
“... which have not been scientifically validated and by undermining self-esteem when sexual orientation fails to change.” psychiatry.org/newsroom/news-…
Here’s an article of more than 16 statements from various medical associations about conversion therapy hrc.org/resources/poli…
A representative in P.R. who belongs to ‘project dignity’ party - which wants stop the bill banning conversation therapy - pointed to the college of pediatricians as a group supporting conversion therapy. That’s group has been labeled a hate group by @splcenter which says...”
“...The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is a fringe anti-LGBTQ hate group that masquerades as the premier U.S. association of pediatricians to push anti-LGBTQ junk science, primarily via far-right conservative media and...”
More: “Though it sounds official, ACPeds is not the leading organization for U.S. pediatricians; That designation goes to the 67,000-member American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).”splcenter.org/fighting-hate/…

From Yale scientist @dacolon: “Below is a link to a review of the scientific literature on conversion therapies (CT). Conclusion: of 13 primary studies, 12 found empirical evidence that CT was not only useless, but was linked to dire consequences, including suicide.”
Inbox: “Mr. Begnaud, my name is Nancy Torres and I live and work in Puerto Rico. For years we have received tourists from the USA with open arms. But the current situation in the entire Metro Area is unsustainable. A new class of tourists are coming to our Island and...”
“...behaving in the worst possible way. There are fights almost everyday. They show no respect for the locals and treat servers in restaurant like garbage. They feel like there are no laws here and they are allowed as they please...”
“...I am contacting you because there is a storm brewing. We are very hospitable, humble people, but the world have seen what we are capable when we say ENOUGH! It’s time to address this matter for everyone’s sake...”
A man who left Puerto Rico b/c he couldn’t find a permanent teaching job & needed to provide for his parents, was recognized by @TheEllenShow for the work he’s doing teaching Spanish to 2nd graders in Indiana. This surprise Pascual Cubero Soto is pure joy. ellentube.com/share/video/el…
About his journey Pascual says: After Hurricane María + the poor management of the islands education dept., I desperately searched for alternatives to provide my family. He worked 7yrs (1yr in Vieques, rest in San Juan metro) for the education dept & never got a permanent job...
“...They changed me every year from town to town far from my family and home,” he said. So against my desire I had to fly to US leaving everything behind. Sold everything, started from zero, slept in a matress on the floor, etc...”
In Utah tonight, LGBTQ students at @BYU lit the ‘Y’ in rainbow as a way of honoring LGBTQ people. Also tonight, the university, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, tweeted: “BYU did not authorize the lighting of the Y tonight.” 📸: @CourtneyLTanner
The moment a Sacramento, CA. judge was about to start the traffic trial of the defendant (Dr. Scott Green) who was in the operating room, helping to operate on a patient, when he jumped on zoom to be present for his trial. The judge wasn’t having any of it
I would love to interview the patient on the operating table. If you know them, my DMs are open.
You have to wonder how this doctor didn’t think he’d get into trouble. Not with the judge, but the California medial board.
I just found out about the story yesterday.
10-year-old Victor Peterzen was hit by a Jeep driver in Houston six months ago and he died because of it.
Nothing has happened to the driver.
Nothing.
I’m asking why, starting with @houstonpolice.
“Victor was riding northbound on Maux Street when he failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign and was struck by the Jeep traveling westbound on Knoboak Drive, according to the Houston Police Department,” reports the Houston Chronicle. houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…
The Chronicle also noted that the case was going to be presented to a grand jury because it involved a juvenile.
This was the moment South Dakota’s attorney General was told that the face of the man he hit and killed actually came through his windshield to the point where investigators say the victim’s glasses were found in the attorney generals car. The AG insists: he thought he hit a deer
