1 If you are a resident of California, I believe you will agree that our state is governed by a political monopoly. I have often stated my belief that monopolies are inherently bad for the people. Re public policy, they are often reckless and inconsiderate. They often produce

2 results that are inconsistent with the will of the people. Prop 16 was a textbook example of the problem. I was president of the No on 16 campaign. I have a track record of success in 9 states, but when I sought financial support from major donors, I struck out. One said,

3 “my ass’n agrees with you on the policy, but the Dems control the Legislature and the governor’s office, and we can’t go against them on this.” They ended up supporting something with which they disagreed because they didn’t want to offend The Monopoly, and they wrongly

4 misjudged the electorate. In a competitive political system, the dynamics change, with better public policy being the result. Once a monopoly is created, it perpetuates itself. There are excellent candidates, like Elizabeth Heng, who have difficulty gaining traction because

5 of their party affiliation. We need to remind our fellow citizens of the Prop 16 phenomenon. Not voting for someone or something because you believe they can’t win can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I believe that most of us on Twitter are keenly interested in

6 what happens to our nation and our state. We are not tweeting just to pass time. For me, I greatly fear what might happen to America as a result of certain actions that might be taken by President Biden regarding the topic of race. To explain: our country is a capitalist

7 nation in which all of its citizens are equal and merit is the basis for the distribution of resources and benefits. A wing of the currently most dominant political party in America wants to “transform” the nation from its existing system to one that does not favor “white

8 supremacy,” they contend. In lieu of equality, it is proposed that “diversity, equity and inclusion” be the governing framework. This language requires explanation. Instead of colorblind government, they are proposing one in which diversity is the result; and instead of no

9 discrimination based on race and other factors that identify individuals, it is proposed that actions be taken to ensure that all groups are “equitably represented.” We have reached point in our nation at which the content of our character is less significant than the color of

10 our skin. We cannot be content with what is occurring. America is not a racist nation. We are not racist people. The mere fact that certain segments of our society are predominately of a certain demographic group is not in and of itself wrong. And, most importantly, it is

11 incumbent upon all of us to resist policies that seek to transform our economic system. Equal citizenship was considered by our founders to be essential for realizing the American Dream. It should remain so for us and future generations.
