So if you guys know anything about me you know I have a son who is super bright. Like multiplying at 6 yrs old and memorizing all the counties in the world. Crazy right?
But what you prob don’t know is he’s already been kicked out of one school and out of one classroom.
Thread
2. And is kind of falling into a statistic. Where so many boys esp. Black boys fall into. Where they are seen as more rambunctious, more disobedient and have a higher diagnosis is ADHD and other neurodevelopment conditions.
3. Which is crazy because this kid isn’t bad. He does what I tell him to do. He’s super honest. Doesn’t lie. And looks out for his little sister. So I really didn’t see it. So I was start internalizing the stats thinking maybe he did have an issue.
4. He just has issues with transitions. If he is learning something it’s hard for him to move on. And he gets bored quickly. He does have tantrums but they are short lived. And he apologized and feels remorse when he does something
5. I started to compare him to his sister. She’s four. She has great verbal skills and listens in class. Translations well and rarely has tantrums. So again I’m internalizing and believing what the schools are saying about my son.
6. And I’m staring to panic because no one wants their kid to fall into a statistic. No one wants their kid not to get early intervention, because that’s key right? So In the middle of COVID I’m frantically looking for therapists and ASD centers and none are available
7. The one of my daughters classmates moms hipped me to this book called Saving Sons. And they go through some scary stats on how boys are more likely to fail out of school, get diagnosed etc.
8. And now I’m seeing that these institutions that was saying my kid was troubled was the ones not equipped in teaching boys, especially black boys. For example: did you know that boys take longer time to transition ...
... because their brains have to divert attention through the frontal cortex while girls are able to use both hemispheres quickly through the corpus callosum?
9. So I was being conditioned to think my kid was acting out in school because his sister never had an issue. Instead I should have been questioning how long they were giving my son to transition.
10. This is getting long but my point is don’t let the system tell you your sons are bad. Do whatever you can to understand them so they don’t be a statistic
End

Do y’all want to know why black people are better at seeing through political bull$hit than white people?
(*not all disclaimer here because some people are ridiculous)
A thread
1. White people* buy into narratives easily. A narrative that creates a character that replaces the actual Human. Rather it is Meghan Markle the Bully, Hillary Clinton as Evil, Obama the failure, and Kamala the cop.
2. Y’all made Disney villains out of them. Stripped them from being human, tossed their nuance to the side and boiled them down to a 2D character.
Women and minorities are constantly harassed, intimidated and bullied in our every day lives and that has bled into social media. The amount of aggression we receive just because we dare to have a different opinion is unconscionable.
Meghan Markle has triggered so many black women, because it was yet another example that no matter what education we have, success that we have had, that even being married to prince, it cannot shield us or our children from being treated as less than
This is why I have no tolerance for class reductionism. Until we deal with a colonization history, until we deal with the white patriarchy, there will be no social and economic mobility for the majority of America
