"It's been two months since there was a violent attack on the Capitol resulting in deaths. The people at the top in this mafia cohort surrounding Trump -- Stone, Bannon, Flynn, etc -- are still not being prosecuted for their role in it." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/electora…
"The aftermath of the Capitol attack is a total disaster from a democracy point of view. It's been played very well by the instigators, who are inside our institutions. The attack was an inside job. It was planned early." -- @ruthbenghiat on @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/electora…
"When Trump had the rally, he wasn't just inciting violence. He told the crowd 'I love you, you're special, our journey is beginning.' January 6 was a rescue operation of the leader. It reminded me of early fascism." -- @ruthbenghiat on @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/electora…
"The GOP has tightly defended this attack, rewriting history, whitewashing violence. Every time a GOP official goes on TV they are telling you that violence is an acceptable way to solve the problem of staying in power." -- @ruthbenghiat on @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/electora…
"There is an emergency in the GOP. They can't win legally but they have to stay in power. As usual, they turn to voter suppression. But what was added was violence -- and the GOP has thrown its weight behind violence as a recruiting tool." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/electora…
"In dictatorships, elections become just another piece of information that can be denied or replaced with the reality that one needs to stay in office. This is what the GOP is trying to do now on a state level." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/electora…
"Democracy was an honor system and they have total scorn for that. In the future, the GOP won't care if they didn't really win the election. They'll try to stay in power anyway, like 20th century authoritarians in other countries." -- @ruthbenghiatpatreon.com/posts/electora…

"There wouldn't have been fascism without WWI. The wounds were new; the scale of psychological damage was new. People became desensitized to killing and hearing about killing. They had their lives turned upside-down." -- @ruthbenghiat on @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/electora…
"Fascists find favor after times of rapid change. Gender emancipation, racial emancipation, labor movements. Figures who simultaneously promise to turn the clock back *and* shake things up begin to emerge on the political scene. These are the strongmen." patreon.com/posts/electora…
"All strongmen are very skilled at mass communication. They know how to be whatever the culture needs them to be. There has to be turmoil in society that is viewed by some as apocalyptic, so they seek a savior in the strongman." patreon.com/posts/electora… -- @gaslitnation
"The story of mercenary Israeli intelligence firm Black Cube, which threatened Obama officials with Trump's approval, has been almost entirely dropped -- even though one of the officials they threatened is now up for a Biden admin role." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"GOP Senators are obsessed with Colin Kahl's tweets on politics, but the tweets everyone should be looking at are the ones where he describes being targeted by Black Cube -- a terrifying situation that was never resolved." patreon.com/posts/why-does…
Thread:
"The threats to Kahl and Ben Rhodes were so severe that they prompted an investigation into Black Cube by Elijah Cummings in 2018. How did that turn out? Cummings abruptly died in 2019 and Congress dropped the inquiry."
"In Missouri, we voted for progressive policies. Raise min wage. Protect labor unions. Ban dark money. Republicans and independents voted for these initiatives too, not just Dems. And then the MO GOP state legislature just shut them down." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"The Missouri state legislature made it impossible for Missourians to move forward, even though we got our shit together and voted. They just overrule our votes. And MO is the model of what will happen nationally if the GOP gains ground." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"The situation in MO is also a reminder to the Dem party that states like mine need help. We need money and support for good candidates. Instead we're blown off or told we deserve to die after every disaster caused by the leadership that overrules us." patreon.com/posts/why-does…
"We live in a growing corporate oligarch-driven power structure. Elon Musk drives space exploration. Jeff Bezos provides journalism jobs. Our economy and democracy should never be dependent on oligarchs being benevolent." -- @AndreaChalupa on @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"The US is a far right country in how the power structure is skewed. We still deal with the fallout of Reagan and the lie of trickle-down economics. We're still dealing with the destruction of the Fairness Doctrine." -- @AndreaChalupa on @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"As a result, you get the GOP voting against the Rescue Plan. A major party that could easily come back into power voting against this plan -- voting against their own constituents' welfare -- is a MASSIVE red flag." -- @AndreaChalupa on @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"Trump was not an aberration, but a culmination. His rise and installation were made possible not only by illegal activity, but by the exploitation of American pain and injustice. Stopping a recurrence means mending structural flaws." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"One year ago, mainstream political campaigns were demanding a higher min wage, affordable healthcare, student debt relief, and an end to dependency on gas station dictatorships like Saudi Arabia and Russia. Then covid-19 came..." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
"Covid-19 came, and the attempted coup came, and the violence came. It came over and over again, in waves of disease, in waves of desperation, in waves of deception that exhausted this country’s capacity to fight for itself." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/why-does…
This is an amazing hike not for the faint of heart. To get onto the canyon trail you have to grip the sides of a slick rock wall and climb down, hoping you don't slip and plunge to your death. Worth it though!
