1/ There is a neo-McCarthyist purge happening in our K-12 schools. The teachers being purged are the ones who encourage their students to think critically and independently.
2/ Other teachers feel like they have to choose between indoctrinating the students in their charge or losing their jobs and their ability to support their families.
3/ One such person, who described himself as "one of the many paralyzed teachers," wrote that "I grapple every day with the shame, since I do not stand up firmly to the one-sidedness of my school's program."
4/ When we recognize this new McCarthyism for what it is, these teachers will teach again. But what about the kids who lost the only teachers encouraging them to think for themselves in a time when education has become about teaching kids what to think rather than how to think?

2/ "While not every professor’s past mistakes will have already risen to the level of sanction, today’s dominant moral culture delights in relitigating any past transgression viewed as having been too leniently addressed...."
3/ Seriously, there are very few of us whose lives could stand up to the scrutiny that people like Prof. Katz face when they dare question the prevailing orthodoxy.
1/ The controversy over @ishapiro's tweet regarding Biden's pledge that his SCOTUS nominee would be a black woman highlights the absurd performative ritual that takes place within a university administration anytime someone dissents from the required orthodoxy.
2/ Ilya pointed out that whomever Biden appoints will forever have an asterisk by her name since Biden has made clear she is being chosen for her race and gender, rather than for being the most qualified person. To be clear: this is true even if she IS the most qualified person.
3/ Everyone knows exactly what Ilya meant. It's clear as day. But now, the performance begins.
1/ Whether or not you agree with the DeVos Title IX regulations, her DOE engaged meaningfully with stakeholders from all sides before issuing the new regulations. The final version very clearly reflects input from a variety of different perspectives. realclearpolitics.com/articles/2021/…
2/ The mere nomination of Catherine Lhamon, not to mention her smug and evasive responses to questioning, makes clear that this administration has no such interest in meaningful engagement.
3/ Instead, to borrow a phrase from Lhamon herself, they merely want to return to the "bad old days" when due process was treated as an impediment to true justice.
Court in UConn due process case is "troubled" by university's procedure-
Acknowledges severe "potential damage" of university's sanction -
Court: "[G]iven all the circumstances that I've described, why not hear from the four witnesses at the hearing, which was the bulk of the plaintiff's defense?"
