Here's a thread of some lessons Ive learnt on this #LegallyClueless journey
1. Speak to business owners from different industries. There's ALWAYS something to be learnt. Some of the most valuable business lessons I've learnt are from ppl in farming & industrial gases industries
2. Map out your purpose, vision, mission and values. This may seem mundane but it really helps focus where you're going. I especially love having clear values as it governs even the partnerships the podcast gets into and the individuals I outsource tasks to etc.
3. Once you have your purpose, mission & vision down it's easy to break down what short term goals and long term goals look like and then hold yourself accountable to these targets. Yeah sometimes you'll have to call yourself out on your BS kidogo :)
4. Discipline. Esp if like me you do most of the work yourself, block out enough hours weekly for your podcast (or whatever) - be it production, recording, marketing, research etc. Plan all your other activities around this.
5. Move at your OWN pace not at how others are moving. So expand when you can afford to, add other facets when you're able to consistently and efficiently keep running them. Keeping up with the joneses is whack (and costly AF)
6. Do not belittle yourself in commercial partnerships. You know what value you have, ask for what you know you need to do a remarkable job. If possible, walk away from engagements that from the jump, want you to run on a loss. Haimeksense/cents lol.
7. Invest back in it. Be it in software or platforms that will enable you to run more efficiently or even in taking yourself through tutorials to improve your skills. And even in marketing & distribution etc
8. As much as this is new media, some of my revenue models are based on those from traditional media and some are unique to my podcast. So it's still worthwhile to understand esp the back-end of the traditional world.
9. TRUST IN YOUR DOPENESS. There will always be a tribe attracted to what comes genuinely from you. You are magic and sometimes we forget that so I figured I'd end this thread with that reminder.
