Today A National day of reflection has been organised by end-of-life charity Marie Curie for us to come together and remember those who have died during the coronavirus pandemic and to support those who have lost loved ones.
2. A year ago today we entered our first national lockdown, since then life has changed more than most of us could ever have imagined. New words we never knew even existed have become part of our daily vocabulary such as: ‘furlough’ ‘social distancing’ and ‘shielding’.
3. Today we want to reflect on the past year and acknowledge the strength and resilience that people have shown.
· To those of you who have lost loved ones this year for any reason, our love and thoughts are with you today and always.
4. To those of you who have battled illness over the last year without someone to hold your hand or hug you in times of need, we see you, we acknowledge you, you are amazing.
5. To those of you who have been diagnosed with a health condition or disease this year during a pandemic and have had to deal with this mainly alone, we see you, we acknowledge you, you are amazing.
6.To those of you who have spent a year shielding, missing friends and family and work and life, we see you, we acknowledge you, you are amazing.
·
7.
To those of you who have supported your partners, children, parents or friends who are at risk, who have shielded alongside them to keep them safe, who have spent countless hours worrying about those they love, we see you, we acknowledge you, you are amazing.
8. To the young carers who give so much love and care and many who have missed friends and school for a year now, we see you, we acknowledge you, you are amazing.
9. To the children and young people with health conditions who have had to shield, some who are still shielding away from friends and family, we see you, we acknowledge you, you are amazing.
• To NHS workers and key workers, we thank you, we acknowledge you, you are amazing
10. We want to work together to improve the support for everyone living with a chronic health condition.
One thing this pandemic has taught us and continues to teach us is that there is still a long way to go re the lack of awareness& education to health conditions in the UK.
