Democrats have the political advantage on guns right now. Background checks are enormously popular; the Democratic caucus is united in supporting gun control, and the NRA has never been weaker. Now is the time to have this fight.
If Democrats want to highlight the unfairness of the filibuster - and the way a minority can thwart the will of the majority - there is no better issue than background checks, which have never universal support from the American people.

It's important to correct the record on this because a) facts matter and b) motives generally don't when it comes to mass shootings. What matters is that easy access to guns are what makes these types of shootings possible. That's where the media focus should be.
We in the media are still failing on how we cover mass shootings. We obsess over motive and ignore the elephant in the room - EASY ACCESS TO GUNS. The alleged shooter in Atlanta bought his weapon the DAY OF HIS CRIME

He then went a step further and specifically cited Jews "in high places"

THREAD: So I have a quick story about Cuomo as a boss based on personal experience.

Back in 1999 I was offered a job to be his chief speechwriter at HUD. I was looking to move to New York so I wasn't terribly interested but I was considering taking it.
About a month after the offer I had still not given an answer. Then one day I got a vmail from a press aide. I was worried they we were going to expect an answer from me and I didn't have one.
So I call back and the press aide says to me, "I'm not pushing you to make a decision but I just want to let you know ... that Andrew is a really difficult person to work for."

In other words, she was trying to talk me out of taking the job.

Today most if not all House Republicans are going to vote against a COVID relief bill that has broad popular support. It’s the smart political move for them - and a reminder as to why the filibuster needs to go truthandcons.substack.com/p/partisanship…
Most GOP House members represent districts that are heavily tilted toward Republicans. Their biggest threat is not losing in a general election but rather being primaried. And to vote for a bill written by Democrats practically invites a primary challenge.
The same is true of all but 1 or 2 GOP Senators. Most are in red-leaning states. Voting with Dems will not win them many votes and will erode their support among Republicans

The trendiness are not good. Republicans are increasingly inclined to reject electoral outcomes - and not just the presidential race. This week former GA Senator David Perdue cited "illegal votes" in his loss to Jon Ossoff - a completely false allegation
Restrictions on voting rights and basic civil rights are growing worse. The GOP is now targeting peaceful protest. More than 60 bills are now being considered in more than 24 states to more narrowly define protests as riots and increase the legal penalties for participation.

Having been in New York State for the past 11 months it’s hard to do justice to what a shock to the system it is to be in place where people walk down the street maskless. Like “it’s hard to compute” shocking
Last night we went to an ice cream parlor and not only were the customers not wearing the mask ... neither were the people serving ice cream. I still can’t get over that.
I should add that most people here (Manatee County, Florida) are wearing masks but a sizable minority are not. Perhaps not unexpectedly, this county went 57-43 for Trump
