.@HuffPost has found its new EIC. Danielle Belton (@blacksnob) will take the helm of the publication, now owned by @BuzzFeed

>> "HuffPost is recognized for its compelling and urgent journalism and I look forward to helping shape its formidable future..."

A related note, as @aleksnotalex tweeted earlier, Danielle was one of the last remaining top leaders at Gizmodo Media Group (now G/O Media) since the family of sites got acquired by Great Hill Partners in April 2019

HuffPost's newsroom is not only reeling from recent layoffs but has been dealing with its own longstanding diversity issues.

@peretti told the newsroom today he is committed to "immediately increasing the representation of Black and Latinx employees"

Jim Rich, G/O Media editorial director, statement on Danielle’s departure from The Root:

“We are reviewing options for her replacement, which we hope to have news on soon, who can take The Root's incredible brand and readership to even higher heights...”

The Atlantic owner David Bradley's memo to staff is about five pages (first 4 below): "I want to tell our departing colleagues how deeply sorry I am. If we saw any prospect that your jobs would return in a reset Atlantic, we would have found another way forward."
The final page David Bradley's memo includes an apology to remaining staffers on no upcoming raises and this inspiring bit: "Through a sine curve of ups and downs, we've grown four-fold in staffing, twenty-fold in readership, so far this century. This story marches on."
