Government watchdogs have tracked the federal response, releasing key reports that shine light on multiple failings.

In Sept. 2020, the GAO released a report that found that FEMA had open requests for PPE & medical equipment—some of which couldn't be filled until the next year.

In November, the GAO found that leaders were still concerned about ongoing shortages of testing and medical supplies. GAO also noted the need for more transparency around the FDA’s scientific reviews to strengthen public confidence in vaccines.
