Today, I finally got around to re-cataloging a fun #herbook - our copy of Icones Virorum Illustrium (1597-99)
Mme Van Huerne, aka Maria Anna Jozefina de Schietere de Lophem(1764-1804) was the second wife on Joseph van Huerne(1752-1844), a book collector in his own right. Apparently he was kind of a dilletante before they met - a poem about him uses the phrase "dove into indolence"
Her father was a book collector, too, but it's interesting that hers is the only name on it - it's distinctly part of her library
It's possible that she was responsible for the small correction to the text in volume 2, especially as the hand doesn't match the inscription from its first owner, Jan van Duivenvoorde
Speaking of the first owner, he added a dated price inscription! 20£ is a solid chunk of change, and really underscores how expensive it was to produce the 200 or so engravings for this edition, even though they're small!
Also, if anybody has a lead on G. Delay, from the red and black St George bookplate, I'd be much obliged!
