2) We usually don't tell our stories till we've already gone through tremendous pain. When we speak up publicly, we want other people to be spared. We're amazed we managed to get through it, we're concerned others won't - we don't want to see anyone else go through that pain...
3) We also speak because one of the ways we get healing is by speaking our stories of abuse, by no longer being silenced. Discouraging people from speaking, harms their personhood (see Langberg 'Counselling Survivors of Sexual Abuse).
4) So please listen to what survivors are saying. Hear them, testify that you've heard them. And act! Fight against this pandemic of abuse that surely is recorded in heaven's records as one of the worse blights there has ever been on the Church.
5) One day, we'll all stand before a Holy God and have to give an account for how we responded. And you can't say, 'Lord when did we see you mistreated?' Because you've heard about us in the recently published reports, and on social media. So, pls rise up and call for repentance.
