NFTs are bad for the environment because art is bad for the environment. oil painting is heavy metals in paint thinner. acrylic paint is plastic. what goes down the sink in the printmaking shop. the darkroom needs tubs of chemicals. thats the deal the artist makes with the earth
i dont make the rules. i can only tell you that every artist has probably committed 50-100 OSHA or EPA violations. i am possibly now the most exempt from this by mostly using a computer and inks but i assume this motherboard and tablet uses metals from a mine run by children
if i was not restrained by the tweet character limit i probably would not use the phrase “bad for the environment” as a definitive endpoint as that concedes certain philosophical ground i generally retain, ie, by what standard, relative to what, in what timeframe etc
reddit hivemind being up in arms about some blockchain technology is obviously worthy of some scrutiny. for what its worth id put money on the NFT thing generally taking off / not going away. once it fully integrates w video games itll be pretty crazy (imo) (not financial advice)

people will talk about that time they read a story about an alien invasion on the radio in the 50s and people thought it was real and laugh about it and then actually think the boat is stuck
yeah we went to the moon and back over half a century ago and today they just cant figure out how to dislodge a boat from a canal for sure man totally i love it its all real
my friend had a blockage in one of his bile ducts in his liver so they put a device through his body that had a camera and a small balloon and a "scraper" and found the blockage and inflated the balloon to dislodge it and then cleaned out the ducts but no one can move A BOAT

my quest to puncture into a deeper layer of symbolic life has gone to a new level. there are eggs in my backyard. just a bunch of eggs, like 6 - 10. id post a pic but theyre just white eggs scattered in the grass. presumably this is for spring but thats not exactly an explanation
this is especially perplexing as if someone threw the eggs, they would have broken. i would expect even dropping them from arm height would break them. but none are broken. they are resting, somewhat evenly spaced, in the grass. my dog licked one. is my subconscious leaking out
they are normal sized. presumably my norm for egg sized is based off of the common “chicken egg”

definitely possible and im open to it, anecdotally ive noticed places like this in this area tend to get a little cagey about rewriting ancient history because if it turns out their civ was started by another rival group its not a great look. theres some tombs they wont “test”.
when i was going the hardest into east asian art history a guy told me (i cant remember if i have the people groups switched here) japan has some ancient ruler tombs they dont want people poking into because some suspect the early rulers were korean, or its the other way around.
i need to reread ecclesiastes through the lens of what it says specifically about empires and potential civilizations falling and being forgotten

"Artefacts discovered in southwestern China suggest that the area was once home to an unknown civilization [..]"

u see the thin gold foil funeral masks like pic 1 in central america also. other "mysterious" ancient china stuff also looks central american. mu/ breakaway civ files
look at these patterns and the vibe. is this stuff ancient chinese or aztec / mayan. would u know? what if it was clay
guess the continent

listening to npr on a drive, which i only do accidentally or when i feel i owe some suffering as penance, is like a masterclass in how a rhetoric-slug can attach to ur brain and burrow in so deep that youre talking for hours without ever saying anything or answering any questions
yesterday this guy was on, talking about some movie streaming service taking down some movie or something because it was now deemed culturally insensitive. and the “interviewer” asks, “some people are going to have a problem with this, what would your response be to them?”
and he says “yeah some people are going to say this is cancel culture, but nothing is being cancelled, we’re just adding a warning to the start of the video and educating people about what the movie actually contains”. cant even tell if its intentional or not but look at maneuver

fascinating how the normal people online hivemind “frenzied caring” can be hyper selectively deployed. for years i begged people irl to consider environmental impact of phones, streaming, but suddenly everyones up in arms about some blockchain tech (look at all the replies here)
i had to be on the tail end of getting a smartphone (2015/16). everyone had one. when theyd ask why i didnt if i brought up anything ethical their brains just totally shut down. never got one intelligent response. now the hive wants to care about cryptos impact. organically. sure
i fought being forced into cyber dystopia every step of the way. i was walked out on the plank via saber. kids in africa mining iphone metals, toxic waste, netflix energy use, i had the charts and articles. but now crypto is here and its time to pump the brakes. thats interesting
