I'd like to do a shorter thread on Wackenhut, not like a full history, but a few interesting things to tie together
Wackenhut Security was started by George Wackenhut, an FBI agent. he started Wackenhut Security with several other retired FBI agents back in 1954
the Miami New Times reported widespread and flagrant overbilling - "Wackenhut stole more than $20 million — $4.5 million per year — from taxpayers by submitting trumped-up records"
their business model relied on increasing privatization of policing: "placing guards all over the world, from nuclear power plants to foreign embassies to private prisons"
"By the late 1960s, George Wackenhut was living large in a 57-room Gables mansion called Tyecliffe Castle. Tyecliffe was known to locals as "Castle Wackenhut.""
Wackenhut was based in Coral Gables and then Jupiter, Florida. which are pretty spooky places
Florida's also ground zero for the use and abuse of private police. anecdotally, I remember visiting someone down there and seeing private neighborhood security in multiple neighborhoods, and you really don't see that in other parts of the country
"Tyecliffe Castle" had $10 million turreted mansion complete with moat, decorated with firearms and medieval suits of armor. His house was wired with infrared and laser sensors, closed-circuit television monitors and photo-cell surveillance and had private radios for his family
George Wackenhut sold the castle to ponzi schemer Allen Stanford. from one criminal to another, lol
a biography of Wackenhut exists, called the Quiet American. which is cute, because Graham Greene's novel, the Quiet American, is about a CIA agent in Vietnam. WINK WINK.
in Age of Surveillance, it was revealed that Wackenhut Security kept full files on Communists and "subversives and sympathizers" after the Red Scare died down. basically, anything the Feds couldn't/shouldn't have had, they had Wackenhut track
"By 1965, Wackenhut was boasting to potential investors that the company maintained files on 2.5 million suspected dissidents - one in 46 American adults then living". a year later, it was reported to have 4 million names
George Wackenhut sold his company for $570 million in 2002; he owned more than 50 percent of its stock. they sold to Group 4 Falck
today, they're known as G4S Secure Solutions. but we're not done with Wackenhut quite yet
Danny Casolaro was a journalist who stumbled onto something that he called "The Octopus"
"The Octopus" has been described as "a network of individuals and institutions that he believed had secretly masterminded a whole series of scandals, from the Iran-Contra affair and the S&L debacle to the BCCI collapse and the 1980 October Surprise deal"
friends and family knew he was being monitored and harassed. Casolaro was found with his wrists slashed 10–12 times, despite his known fear of blood. The medical examiner ruled the death a suicide.
he got drawn into a "Bermuda Triangle of spooks, guns, drugs and organized crime" by the Christic Institute and a LaRouche journalist. but how's this relate to Wackenhut?
without telling the whole Casolaro saga, basically there were strange things afoot at the Cabazon Indian reservation, including a triple homicide, and Wackenhut was supposedly running a weapons programs testing a powerful "fuel air explosive" and biological weapons
the Cabazon Indian reservation is out there by Coachella, Twentynine Palms w/ the marine base, the Morongo reservation which was one of the key tribes to win the right to run a casino right around that same time, a lot of weird shit out there in the desert
the assertion, not completely proven, was that Wackenhut could test things that were illegal under normal US law if they were testing them on sovereign Indian lands. you can read thro this article if you find that hard to believe
Danny Casolaro probably wasn't killed over whatever Wackenhut was doing at the Cabazon reservation, but they might've, you know. don't image search for him, btw, unless you wanna see gore. someone really did a number on his wrists
the Octopus stuff might be old news to some people, but I was reading a different book and found some new info that blew me away
for one thing, guess who does security out at Area 51? and the US Atomic Energy Commission blast sites? lol
Wackenhut ran 1,500 employees in El Salvador in 1985-1986. if you're not sure, that's during their civil war. those soldiers are throwing up the 'ol Nazi salute. we're talking death squads here.
one Wackenhut guest to the Cabazon reservation was Edén "Comandante Cero" Pastora, a Sandinista-turned-Contra, who was there shopping for explosives, biological weapons, and night-vision equipment
here's the real treat: y'all heard about the Brabant Killings?
they were "a series of violent attacks that mainly occurred in the Belgian province of Brabant between 1982 and 1985. A total of 28 people died. The actions of the gang, believed to consist of a core of three men, made it Belgium's most notorious unsolved crime spree."
these were bizarre crimes, because heavily armed men would roll up and just mow down anyone, and make off with very little money. "The active participants were known as The Giant; the Killer and the Old Man."
"This led to a parliamentary inquiry and public discussions, both of which revolved around the possibility that the gang members may have been Belgian and foreign state security elements either carrying out covert missions or conducting political terrorism."
people are now pretty sure that it was GLADIO in some form or other, the stay-behind networks. I mean, most people reading my thread probably know what Gladio is, right? lol
it's pretty certain that the Brabant killers were involved with the Westland New Post, which was an extreme right-wing/Nazi org, run by Paul Latinus. who was he?
Paul Latinus was an asset of the less well-known American Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Latinus also visited Chile. I wonder where and why he'd visit Chile in 1981, lol
Latinus dies of a suspicious suicide in 1984; the Brabant Killings end abruptly in 1985. how's Wackenhut plug into this?
well, one of the other members of the Westland New Post was Marcel Barbier, who was a Wackenhut security guard for Wackenhut guarding a synagogue when it was bombed in 1982; they later found proof that he was involved in the bombing
after investigating the crime, they found proof of his involvement, as well as confidential NATO material, various weapons and neo-Nazi material
"It also turned out that Barbier was a former member of the Front de la Jeunesse, and was currently a member of a neo-Nazi organization called Chevalerie teutonique". dang, that's weird that Wackenhut would employ him, huh?
I wonder if there were any other weird connections between Wackenhut and the far-right in Europe. also, wait a minute...
"Wackenhut's local director in Belgium at the time was a curious individual named Jean-Francis Calmette", who was in the Organisation Armée Secrète and suspected to be a member of the Westland New Post
the OAS was a far-right paramilitary terrorist org in France and Algeria that was involved in many, many crimes and parapolitical events
anyway, Calmette was a karate/combat instructor, local director for Wackenhut, and he employed other members of the WNP apart from Barbier. he may have been one of the Brabant killers, too.
to wrap this up, let's think a minute about relatively recent events. who remembers the 2017 Fort Lauderdale airport shooting?
the shooter was Esteban Santiago-Ruiz, who had served in Iraq. "he entered the FBI office reporting hearing voices in his head ordering him to watch ISIS videos"
"The biggest red flag came in early November, when Santiago showed up at the Anchorage office of the FBI telling agents he was hearing voices in his head from U.S. Intelligence agencies"
he worked for Signal 88, which is a private LTD company with the sketchiest fucking name I've ever heard, like holy shit. I wasted a huge amount of time researching Signal 88 and there's zero info on the investors who started it, but it's based out of Omaha
now, more directly, let's talk about Omar Mateen and Wackenhut/G4S
he worked for G4S from 2007 till his death in 2016. 9 years.
Mateen appears in The Big Fix, about the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Mateen said: "Nobody gives a shit here. Everybody's just, get out to get paid. They're like hoping for more oil to come out and more people to complain so they'll have jobs. They want more disaster to happen."
"G4S said two screenings of Mateen had raised no red flags". Under Florida state law, for him to work as an armed guard the company was required either to make a full psychiatric evaluation of Mateen, or to administer a "validated written psychological test"
they went with the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test, which has questions like "My soul sometimes leaves my body" and "Once in a while I think of things too bad to talk about."
but the psychologist listed as having given him the test in 2007 says she never met him, and had sold her practice to G4S the year before. the practice was called the spooky "Headquarters for Psychological Evaluation"
I'm not suggesting anything, but I think it's important to think about Wackenhut's past, as well as Esteban Santiago-Ruiz, when contextualizing Omar Mateen.
and I think "there ought to be a national conversation" about private security companies. I'm sure that if we try to face problems like these head-on, we can make the world a better place

god bless

I read this very nice and short book on German Communist resistance to the Nazis, and I recommend it both as a fascinating and inspiring history and as a salve against the liberal bullshit narrative that's often taught about the Germans in Germany
the narrative we know is that the Communists fiercely opposed the Nazis, but were immediately put down by them, and didn't do much until the very end of the war, and then we learn a LOT about the White Rose and the Kreisau Circle
in reality, the Communists were the only ones who employed all forms of resistance against the Nazis for the duration of the regime

RFK said this, but less known is the fact that he was quoting that Fabian, George Bernard Shaw.
even less known is that he was quoting Shaw's play, Back To Methuselah
on top of that, it's not widely understood that it's actually a quote from the Serpent, aka the devil:
"I hear you say 'Why?' Always 'Why?' You see things; and you say 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say 'Why not?"

there's a lot to say about Marilyn Monroe. but I'd like to talk about the forces that propelled/(groomed?) her to stardom, the Kennedys, the Feds, Communists, organized crime, espionage, and the hint of even darker forces that destroyed her life.
up front, I should say that growing up, I was only vaguely aware of her through like, the Misfits, a certain type of woman being into her, and being into classic movies. and of course she's one of the brightest Hollywood stars. but man, there's a lot more going on with her
also, I'm not really going to do a conventional bio, but she was a serious and talented actress; her movies are hilarious and the Misfits is a very good film

I'd like to cover the curious case of Wen Ho Lee 李文和, a Taiwanese-American scientist at Los Alamos who was accused of spying for the People's Republic of China. Image
Lee grew up in Taiwan where he got a degree in mechanical engineering, and then came to Texas A&M to finish continue his studies. he got a doctorate, specializing in fluid mechanics in 1969 and became a US citizen in 1974 Image
he worked in various research firms before he was hired at Los Alamos in 1978, where he worked on weapons design, focusing on applied mathematics and fluid dynamics ImageImage

a while back, I read Sally Denton's the Bluegrass Conspiracy, which blew my mind and I totally recommend to everyone. it covered Andrew Thornton II and 'the Company' cocaine ring that infiltrated Kentucky and US politics
this year, I read her other book, the Profiteers: Bechtel and the Men Who Built the World, and its ridiculous how influential and important Bechtel is, and I had, like, no idea about any of it. it just wasn't on my radar
I'm not trying to do a megathread on Bechtel, but there's a few stories I wanna cover, at least

when I was younger, I fell for the Assange-Snowden myth pretty hard; I believed that we needed more transparency, that it was as simple as leaking government secrets, and that The People would be able to enact changes to reform society. Image
I hate being a sucker, and that's what you are if you still buy the dream Image
Assange's mom was in the Family, also known as the Great White Brotherhood, and according to Assange, he and his mom were on the run from the cult when he was age 11 to 16. Image
