I’d like to share with you all a few videos from the development of Hypnospace Outlaw. These were all unlisted until today. WARNING: Some may be spoilers (depending on what you consider a spoiler)!
1 - Early Janitor:

This is an early version of the Janitor minigame, from when there was still a “wallet” app and no HUD. Also apparently I was listening to some industrial music, making this gameplay REAL INTENSE :P
2a - Early Gooper case:

The first time the Gooper case (the 1st case we implemented) could be played from start to finish. Note the early sfx and UI before we tweaked some stuff.

There are some other things I'd like to go into more detail here too...
2b
- HSPD Outlaw Detainment - a zone where banned individuals' pages would go.
- Abby wasn't a teacher! You're reporting Gooper gifs peppered through her fanfiction.
2c
- The "Power" button icon - at this point in the game, instead of advancing day to day at scripted points in the game, you could advance the day at any moment. The Hypnospace Headband would "put your body into stasis until tomorrow evening. You won't feel a thing!"
2d
I still like the transition between days here, but putting the player into a temporary coma was a... questionable choice, so we scrapped it. Also having all the citizens react and update their pages on command instead of during scripted moments was gonna be too much work.
2e
Plus, being able to go to the next day at will made it impossible to do special events in Hypnospace for holidays and such that actually followed a narrative. Plus players could have just skipped days into infinity which ofc wouldn't make much narrative sense either.
3 - Hanger5000x:

The first iteration of the OS "hanging" effect. Originally this was going to be a virus that could be "cured", but we decided to use it elsewhere.
4 - HypnOS startup glitching:

Basically just me playing around with the next iteration of the OS hanging effect, but you can see an early version of the main menu here!
5 - Highway AI:

In this debug mode of Outlaw (then just called "Highway") I have it set up so the camera can follow cars and see their various variables and states at the top left, and a text view of the cars' ID #'s on the highway map.
5a
Each car in Outlaw has one of a few personalities:
- Normal
- Hotrod (gotta go fast, get around slow folks)
- Grandpa (gotta go slow, dislike changing lanes)
- Indecisive (gotta change lanes and speed often)
- Outlaw (gotta get away from the Enforcer)
- [removed per spoiler]
5b
And a few states:
- Normal
- Nervous (slows down until they regain their bearings)
- Panic (gtho!)

The personalities determine min/max speeds, and how often they want to change speed/lanes. States determine how they act within those parameters.
5c
So with just a few simple parameters, the traffic on the highway really started to feel "alive" and believable.

The values at the top show:
ID, [is active], x position on the grid, personality/state
current speed -> target speed, and idk the last one
6 - Enforcer implementation on Highway:

Here I've actually added the player (Enforcer) to the highway. You can see the cars' reactions to the player's presence and actions.

Pay close attention to their taillights to get an idea of their state :)
7 - BONUS: Hypii poots

This is from when I first implemented captions for Hypii as an accessibility option, and the "robot voice" option as an alternative to the TTS

:P

Hey uhh I'm doing something I've never done before, stream a PC game on Twitch! Playing Half Life: Alyx mods, in particular a Biohazard/Resident Evil mod. Join me?

I'm also voice chatting via the Hypnospace Discord dev-stream channel, if you want to join that too :)
Well that was fun, ran through a few chapters of the Half Life: Alyx Resident Evil mod, streamed it all on Twitch, and had the Discord chat open, AND my computer didn't crash!! Hooray!
