My goodness, Facebook’s arrogance and disrespect for governments. Facebook was just asked about shopping job postings to those with oversight over Facebook. Watch through. -> “It is important that we show love and courage to people when we bring them before the committee.” !!!
Same here. Upon noting Facebook CEO testified to Congress and actively lobbied Australia govt, Facebook’s Chan has the nerve to correct its audience size while later dodging simple questions on whether they even have French-speaking moderators in Canada.
This came after this point about the unique governance of Facebook with extraordinary unchecked powers to put profit over democracy which they’ve done and will continue to do.
Good line of questions by @juliedabrusin pointing out the core issue is Facebook’s surveillance advertising business model which Chan also tries (again) to punt into a different policy issue and dismiss as any different than other advertising.
I suspect @juliedabrusin knows this but this intersection of data policy and competition policy is core to Facebook’s biz model.

Interesting point by @AHousefather on how Facebook’s CEO doesn’t answer to Canadian Parliament yet they refuse to release Canadian revenues and instead bundle them with America. Then Facebook’s big reveal comes soon after that they will now disclose Canadian revenues.
