Golpe de Estado (Coup d'état) is trending in Brazil following yesterday's government/military upheaval.

We have been writing about the possibility of an auto-coup since before Bolsonaro was elected.

He was already talking to the NYT about it in 1993.

In 2015, worried about what was happening in Brazil, she gave us this exclusive epilogue to it.

Breaking: Far-right minister of foreign affairs, Ernesto Araújo, dubbed "the worst diplomat in Brazil's history", has now asked to resign, after facing massive pressure for his removal. Image
One month ago, Brazil's outgoing far-right Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo was on a remote charm offensive in the United States.

In an online Q&A hosted by Council of the Americas, Bolsonaro's Amazon policy was called a "win win".

brasilwire.com/extractivism/
In 2019, Brazil's brand new ex-foreign minister Araújo visited the US to announce a new bilateral agreement to open up the Amazon for development.

Araújo called the agreement “…the Holy Grail of Brazil’s foreign policy, at least for the private sector”.

No matter how disgraced its hero Sergio Moro and Lava Jato have become, Council of the Americas just can not let its anti-corruption fairytale go...

All articles on AS/COA, an organisation created specifically to interfere in Latin American politics:

In 2015's #PodemosTirarSeAcharMelhor scandal, Reuters employees were caught censoring an admission by former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso that the Petrobras bribery scheme targeted by Lava Jato and blamed on the PT began under his government.

Lava Jato did not "lose its way”. It was always a political and geopolitical weapon, with a domestic and international propaganda campaign that is perhaps unprecedented outside wartime. brasilwire.com/the-narrative-…

The pattern of Anglo media coverage during Brazil's coup is repeated across Latin America.

Golpista-friendly talking points and smears are laundered through ‘progressive’ and ‘leftist’ publications, killing international solidarity for left governments. brasilwire.com/how-the-us-lef…
A key example of progressive Anglo media cover for a right wing coup was support for US-Brazil anti-corruption operation Lava Jato, which in the FBI's words "toppled" presidents Dilma Rousseff and Lula da Silva, bringing neofascist Jair Bolsonaro to power. brasilwire.com/the-narrative-…

2012’s “Operation Brasília” defaced 100+ commercial and government sites to leave protest messages about corruption, and steal confidential information from servers. Such “corruption” would be the principal propaganda weapon of Brazil’s coup to come. brasilwire.com/when-the-fbi-s…
Targets included the Internal Affairs Division of the Military Police, Justice Ministry, Globo, São Paulo Military Police, Banco do Brasil, São Paulo Metro, and 3 municipalities.
The Brazilian Intelligence System, SSBIN, was also brought down.

A brand new long read editorial.
