THREAD:
Shutdown vs Lockdown: What's the difference???

Ontario has created a new category of COVID19 restrictions called "Shutdown" ontario.ca/page/enhancing…

But how different is it really from "Lockdown"?
covid-19.ontario.ca/zones-and-rest…

Short answer ... not a lot #COVID19Ontario
Retail stores...

Shutdown: essential retail open, 50% of max capacity; non-essential retail open, 25% of max capacity

Lockdown: exactly the same

#COVID19Ontario
Restaurants....

Lockdown: indoor dining prohibited, patio dining allowed

Shutdown: indoor dining and patio dining prohibited

#COVID19Ontario
Sports and recreation...

Lockdown: Golf courses open

Shutdown: Golf courses closed

(My sources told me last night golf courses would be open under the new restrictions, so there's that.)
Gatherings:

Lockdown: indoor gatherings banned, outdoor limited to 10 people.

Shutdown: indoor gatherings banned, outdoor limited to 5 people.
Religious, wedding and funeral services:

Lockdown: services are allowed indoors, limited to 15% capacity of the room, outdoors with two metres physical distance

Shutdown: exactly the same
Okay, but does shutdown mean the same as stay at home order?

Doesn't look like it.

Basically the same wording here

Lockdown: "Only go out for essential reasons"

Shutdown: "You should only go out for necessities"

#COVID19Ontario
To sum up, the more restrictive measures in Shutdown vs. Lockdown (that I can find) are all about *outdoor* space:
»patio dining closed
»golf courses closed
»outdoor gatherings limit of 5 instead of 10.

#COVID19Ontario
Here's the current regulation that gives the legal wording of the differences between Ontario's lockdown and shutdown, so there may be some nitty gritty things I missed, buried in here. #COVID19Ontario

Premier Doug Ford is to reveal the full plan at 1:30 p.m. A government source tells me things are still "very fluid." #COVID19Ontario

To put it in terms of actual patient numbers: at this time of year, an average of ~800 kids show up at emergency rooms across Ontario with respiratory illnesses each day. Right now the daily average is more than 2,100.

NEW: Premier Doug Ford names 43 of his MPPs to be parliamentary assistants, which gives them each a $16,600 bump in pay above the standard MPP salary of $116,500.
Added to his 30-member cabinet, this means 73/83 PCs have extra duties & extra pay. #onpoli
By the way, salaries for all Ontario MPPs (whether backbenchers, parliamentary assistants, Leader of the Opposition or Premier) have been frozen since 2008. #onpoli
cbc.ca/news/canada/to…
Also, there remain opportunities for the other 10 PC MPPs not on this list to get pay bumps as well: the Speaker, deputy speakers, caucus chair, whip & chairs of legislative committees all get pay hikes too. #onpoli ontario.ca/laws/statute/9…

“The bill is really focused on making the planning process work better and smoother and faster,” said a senior government official.
What’s not clear: whether the measures will have any short-term impact on the price of buying a home in Ontario. #onpoli

BREAKING: The Ford government is boosting Ontario's foreign buyers tax on residential real estate to 20%, and expanding it to apply province-wide.

This is big news. It's the first substantive thing the Ford government has done to address demand factors in the astonishingly rapid rise of the cost of buying a home in Ontario. Average home sale price has jumped 44% in two years. crea.ca/housing-market…
The Wynne government brought in Ontario's foreign buyers' tax in 2017, at a time when home prices were also skyrocketing. It had an almost immediate effect in bringing prices down. #onpoli
