Immigrants here illegally (as well as residents who were incarcerated) will potentially be eligible to $27,000 in unemployment benefits from NY back-dated to mid 2020 and covered through Sep ‘21.

The Stimulus does not allocate $2.1 billion direct funds for this. But the Stimulus does send many billions to NY to cover its deficit which means other state money (direct or via debt) can now be allocated to this program.

NY Dems were outraged that the Trump Tax Cuts placed a limit on SALT (State & Local Tax) deductions. But those Dem are now proposing to raise tax on the wealthy.

Are they for or against rich people paying more?

Oh, only more for NY is ok; not more for the federal gov.

This is odd because NY leaders begged @JoeBiden to send more federal money to NY.

This “needed” tax hike comes as NY state lawmakers are proposing a $2.1 billion fund to give unemployment benefits to convicts and illegal immigrants backdated to mid 2020 through Aug 2021.

NY is creating a $2.1 billion unemployment benefits fund in part for convicts who couldn’t work last year and lose their job due to COVID—19 to then get Unemployment.

It’s like granting compensation for people who didn’t develop cancer because they didn’t help at Ground Zero.

NY State has a 13% tax rate on Cannabis and the law lets municipalities ban local sales.

Those two factors will keep the dark market going.
